City vs Real Madrid Post match Discussion Thread

Another positive from last night was we preserved our amazing home record against foreign opposition in European competitions....just one defeat in 45 years. During that time the teams we have remained unbeaten against include:

Juventus (twice)
AC Milan
PSG
Porto
Ajax
Schalke
Dortmund
Monchengladbach
Valencia
Real Madrid
Athletic Bilbao
Bayern Munich
Hamburg

Throw in our recent wins over Barca (Thomas Cook, Joan Gamper). Not bad for a club with no history!

What was the defeat?

I think that had Marcelo played for Madrid, the game would've been much different. All I remember from the first game is terrifying runs up the field from him time and time again.

disappointed about the CL campaign, yes. but a draw with Real is a good result and we WILL BE BACK and better next season.

So out of the Champions League at the group stage.Arsenal have now qualified for the CL for the thirteeth time, but with what success.I bet the Arsenal fans would have loved to be in our shoes this last two years.Give it a few years yet, then who knows.Would United,Arsenal or Chelsea have qualified from our group, think not.Personnally don't want Europa Cup.Lets keep trying to win domestic trophies for a while.Learning to grind out results, and demoralising the rest of the premiership, similar to what Chelsea and that other lot did for years.

We knew this was the toughest group, and it was great to play against some of the top teams in Europe, and the results were disappointing.
The difference I observe between City in the EPL and City in Eorope is more of a problem of failure to adapt tactically and failure to make best use of squad rotation, and for that the manager must take his share of the blame.

RM needs to abandon his old buddy who doesn't speak English who he brought in this summer as defensive coach and admit that the 3 at the back experiment is a failure. Just look at the difference against Real Madrid last night between the first half (3 5 2) and the second half (4 3 3). If Roberto lets him go (sooner rather than later) it will protect his own job. We don't want to become like Chelski or Spuds regularly changing managers. Roberto is very stubborn refusing advice from anyone on man-management, for example sticking too long with Balo who has had too many last chances.

RM needs to abandon his obsession with big name big money signings. Look at his panic buys at the end of the summer transfer window. There is one one success there and that is Nastasic who has fit in well and will only get better as he is only 19 (Balo please take note).

So lets take a couple of positives from this group D experience; we played against some of the top teams in Europe and were not disgraced (only disappointed), we are better out of the Europa League with too many games and distractions for a poor prize, we should concentrate on winning the league again and a good run in the cup might be a bonus.

Couldn't agree more.

Goal.com have got a lot of off-field City stories correct recently, but the lad who gave these ratings was out of his depth.
