City Vs Roma Post Match Thread

Very disappointed with the result. Roma has some great players but they were playing away and had a lot of their starters injured. I still have hope, but if we couldn't beat them today, we have even less of a chance in Rome.

No-one should be blaming the ref, I know we should have had a second pen however the bottom line is that their keeper has barely had a shot to save all game and they've had by far the better opportunities.

We were shite, end of.
This is spot on.

The only positive from it is we might never see a prematch as embarrassing as all the 4-0 and 5-0s 'they're italian so they're shit'.

We don't have it in Europe we always look totally surprised by what the other team does. 4 in midfield? Standing off Totti and Pjanic? Letting Gervinho get one on one?

The 2 man midfield killed us tonight, but going with that team from the start shouldn't be a problem, there should be no excuses. 2 weeks back we played a Chelsea team that is one of the best in Europe, with the same two man midfield from tonight and we were solid; no gaps to exploit whatsoever. That day we played a 4-1-3-2 where Fernandinho sat in front of the defence and cut off any space for tika taka football. Tonight it was more of a flat 4-4-2 and that left a ridiculous amount of space between the back 4 for Roma to move themselves forward. Whether this is a conscious decision by the management or simply a lack of tactical understanding from the players I don't know, but a 2 man midfield is proven to only work if carried out properly and not lazily.

Roma were much more adventurous than Chelsea and that is why we got away with it against Mourinho's team.

We look like a non league side in the FA cup in the Chumps League. Lots of headless running around but ultimately naïve.
The words of Rat Boy occurred to me tonight "we knew City would huff and puff".

How unfortunate that Paul Scholes called this correctly prior to the game and after.
It's illegal oakie, to agree with the ginger pig even if he's right. Get yourself down to the nearest GMP station and hand yourself in!!

The difference was that, against Chelsea, Milner was on from the start and Navas was only brought on for the last few minutes. With Milner in - even if he starts out wide - if we are getting overrun we can team Milner and Fernandinho as defensive mids and sit Yaya just in front. With Navas we don't have the option of pushing Yaya further forward.

Piss poor....the boss got it very wrong.

It is no good going for a 'quality will out' option if the opposition negate the best you have got, even if the best spends sixty plus minutes off cock!

I had the impression that their goalie was a classic continental - total shite, and he never got tested as far as I can remember.

It's as though Pellers doesn't give too much thought to what the opposition have to offer nor what strengths they have! Every team that wants to frustrate us for most of the game seem to be able to come with a game plan that does just that.

We didn't play well, and when you need a full team performance it goes flat.

We have half a dozen players who can produce something out of nothing, and the others seem, on occasions to be waiting for it!

Just when yer needed some kind of blitz to shut the Ginger CNuts up we get a damp squib!

We are rabbits in headlights in this competition though aren't we. Some of our defending was laughably bad, and I include our captain in that. What on earth was he doing for their goal???

Midfield was over run, said this after 10 minutes and Roma just exploited the space and made us look too open until we had an extra person in midfield. Ah well, lesson still to be learnt in tight euro games where patient counter attacking games are the norm...
