Just out of interest is this an issue that has affected other major clubs or because it relates to City we are more sensitised to it.

I think over the past few years there have been threads on youth team players, other members of the womens team and now the Toni Duggan incident. Just wondering if it is an issue of education or guidance on these issues which is lacking.

It all depends on her contract but I suggest that the general charge of "Bringing the employer into disrepute" would apply here.
We'd be well and truly down the rabbit hole if that happened.

Happens regularly in the "real" world.

Employees who post anything on social media that might be deemed as inappropriate are liable for sanction.

In this case I will use the analogy I used previously - if your company lost out on a big contract to a rival and you were photographed celebrating with the CEO of that company your employer would probably want a chat.

I know that analogy isn't precisely what has happened here but the employment relationship is based upon trust and if the employer loses trust with the employee then there is only one outcome.
That analogy isn't even close to what happened with Duggan. I don't see any similarities whatsoever.

The bottom line in this whole incident is that we get a ridiculous unbalanced amount of information about the ladies team forced on me via the clubs website. I have no interest in it yet its there on the news feed everyday. There are more fans watching sunday league pub teams yet they get ridiculous amounts of coverage.

If the club want to operate this way then the least I expect is a a senior player to act responsibly, and that includes not being an LVG groupie on derby day.

The amount of blues defending her on social media just about sums up why our support has deteriorated to the state it is these days.

I would have said that those blues defending her on social media are showing a lot more class than some of the idiots vilifying her. If thats the cause of our "deterioration" I welcome it.

Not you as well Chabal, I liked you!

We know the world of football is different to the scenario you used, don't you think this is making us look very bitter and small time?

I am not saying she should be sacked.

The point I am making is that employers have the right to determine whether the actions of their employees outside of the workplace which are captured on social media have an impact upon the employment relationship,

That is not my personal view - it is the reality of employment in 2015.

I would have thought that every player who is paid for representing City at whatever level will have some contractual obligation not to bring the club into disrepute.

The issue here is whether Duggan brought the club into disrepute. I will reserve judgement upon that but the views expressed certainly confirm that it is a discussion worth having.

Honest crass idiots or vain preening hypocrites and their transparent deflections is it?" I'll go with the idiots' instinctive disgust on this one, however poorly expressed.

I agree totally about the lack of class and disgusting comments made about her - but her actions were ill judged and like with everyone who thinks they're so important to share everything with strangers, she is responsible for her own silly actions.

In a strange way, the 'outrage’ this has caused gives some credibility to the women’s team. As somebody said earlier, if it had been one of the first team squad in the picture, even the most understanding of fans would have been pissed off. If, however, it had been one of the under 14’s, no sane person would have batted an eyelid. The girls are therefore being given the same treatment as the men’s team and being taken more seriously than the under 14’s.

Surely, isn’t that what they want?

This is the bit I'm struggling with. Its the second time in the last 10 pages that someone has linked our 'deteriorating support' to the people who are defending a young girl who has been slaughtered on the internet for posting a picture of herself with a famous person. Its a ridiculous suggestion and the faux outrage shown by some is comparable to the old 'I'm a bigger blue than you' argument.

Is the apology an act of genuine remorse? I am not sure. The reason why is, the offending tweet posted at 5.15pm saying she is really enjoying the game is still on her site. Is this an act of defiance by her. Hands up all blues who were really enjoying the game at 5.15pm when we were getting beat and being over run by our sworn enemy. Me thinks that apology has come from the club in a damage limitation exercise otherwise she would have also removed this tweet.
