City's 1960s team

I worked there through all that. 11 mangers in 9 years. I was told that Skip looked at Daley, Robinson and a few others and didn't like the price so walked away from the deals, and Malcom revisited them a nd basically offered nearly twice what their clubs wanted. Preston couldn't believe their luck. They wanted 250,000 and got 750,000. Financial suicide when paired with alienating your best pros and giving them away. I don't think we'd be the well adjusted bunch we are without having lived through it ;-)

yep in his last days at city that documentary it was brutal for allison. maybe the damage was done and the documentary highlighted what was coming ? swales was a showman loved the limelight just as much as allison and it was a story line right out of Disney ? but sadly the end for city as a football club

if the damage allison/swales did was not so bad maybe john bond would have a chance. but again swales shown is his true colours and power and went back on promises and john bond legged it pretty quick

from swales to lee being chairman the damage a top club should never be in was on show ? city fans did not ask for much. loyal to the core but was use for money ? i still hear stories of the dodgy dealings swales did at city ? debt and interest rates from loans took out on future season tickets or assets was crazy and never manageable

so sad that a team and club from the mid 60s early 70s that won everything could turn out to be a laughing stock for 40 odd years. the amount of damage done in a short space of time by swales was crazy. it really did take the strongest beating heart in english football to needing major surgery and a pace maker fitted

the only silver lining was the fans ? maybe we was took for granted. but love is a crazy thing and we never ask for much ? swales took us for granted but nobody held a smoking gun to our heads ? we turn up week after week in hope ? false hope as it turn out
Couldn't agree more with you, although for what its worth I wouldn't have changed the journey I have had as a supporter of the club for all the money in the world(my first game was the year before Allison returned). That being said I think to this day we are still dealing with the damage that Swales left.... I totally lay the narrative that so many people outside the club have that we are a club with no history at his feet.

I have heard from a number of people(not connected with City)that Daley was someone alot of clubs were sniffing around at the time. Robinson though was kind of out of left field LOL! which given the careers they, respectively would ended up having is something of an irony.

I was told there was scouting reports on both. Wolves wanted 650k and like zi said, Preston wanted 250k which Skip wouldn't pay. Malc opened at 500k, and Preston gambled and said no, and Malc went back with 750k! Only what I was told by my boss.

What people will miss about that is that 750K likely would have placed Robinson in the top 10-15 signing of cost wise at the time I would think! Recall reading that it was a record for highest fee received at Preston for something like 20 odd years!
