Would anyone else agree that we've awarded ridiculous wages to incoming players which has potential to really come back and bite us in the arse?
I'll elaborate......There seems to be ongoing negotiations with Balotelli's people about what salary he is to pick up. We've been hearing noises coming out of City that we don't want to pay over the odds, either in transfer fees or players wages but this is completely at odds with the clubs policy since the new owners took over.
If sources are to be believed, we have players like Ade, Kolo and Robinho on around 150 grand a week and fringe players such as Ireland RSC and Bridge on 80 grand. It would appear to me that these a lot of these players will be surplus to requirements quite soon and due to their ridiculous wages we won't be able to get the off the pay roll at all. I completely understand the players refusing to move on and take a pay cut elsewhere, it was the clubs fault they got these long and ridiculously expensive contracts, specifically those who negotiated the deals (I can only wonder who!).
Every agent who deals with us now will be demanding top dollar for their client as we're currently seeing with Balotelli. The other point is surely with the egos within a squad, we're going to see a lot of resentment of those on wages twice as large as their peers when they hardly get a look in.
So, have we shot ourselves in the foot by paying way over the odds in terms of wages for the wrong players?

Spot on mate....i mean we could have got Marlon King for nothing, why fook about with world class players

Bridge, RSC, Kolo, Ireland, Viera, Robinho and Ade are all on wages they shouldn't be. I didn't mention the likes of Tevez or Bellamy as they actually deliver but you carry on and ignore my point.

You really think we paying 100k a week for viera, Bridge and RSC cant be on more than 70k a week (obviously alot still)

And as for ade, prob on over 100k a week but he didnt actually do that bad last season 1 in 2 is not a bad record for someone who banned for 7 games n total missed more than a month after being shot at and has some niggling injuries

It's a difficult one. On the one hand wev'e made a rod for our own back by handing out ludicrous wages to average players. It's harder to get rid of them and it means there's no chance of being able to put a manageable structure in place. That will make it harder to be financially self-sustaining.

On the other hand, it's what we had to do to attract the standard of player we've now got as we couldn't offer anything else at the time.

I accept that there'll be a City premium in terms of wages and transfers but it just seemed we were like the tooth fairy with some of the contracts that were handed out to mediocre players. I'm certainly not talking about what the likes of Carlos, Silva and Ya Ya are on as these are top quality players. It's some of the ones I mentioned on my initial post. I believe we could of handled negotiations better and the damage has already been done. Any player who has a half decent six months at the club will be demanding near parity with our top earners. It's this kind of madness that could hurt the club when UEFA's rules about self sufficiency hit home in a few years.

dont worry..be happy

I dont really get it either. There was much fuss when the exec box prices increased by 17k a season, and yet 17k ain't gonna pay the wages of one player for longer than 1/2 a day a week. Also Level 2 tickets will increase next year, and so be it, no probs, but if there are about 20,000 Level 2 tickets and they increased by £200 each then thats only an extra £4m a year, or the equivalent of wages of 80k per week for 1 player. So why bother? Also beer went up 40p in the ground some time back. I reckon that if everyone drank 3 pints at the ground at every game then that nets about an extra £1m a season, or 20k a week for 1 player, so what was the point, its spare change? Anyhow I can't do maths so I'll leave it to Garry Cook to worry about. But you are right, Danny mills wouldnt clear off and his contract was only 35k a week.

You don't know what they are earning. I don't know what they are earning and i suspect everyone on this site doesn't know what they're earning. A few people will though and only them, so let everyone speculate as much as they want as the answer is we know sweet f.a. about the various wages of players and that includes The Sun, Mirror, Mail, watchtower, war-cry and any other publication. The club obviously know what they're doing even with the impending UEFA restrictions so i think we'll leave it to them.
