A deep lying playmaker in the summer is crucial if we want european succes, bar Yaya our midfield options looks ordinary compared with the likes of Madrid, Dortmund, PSG etc.
Benat?
Personally I'm not a massive fan, really good player but I prefer Gundogan and Fernandinho.
Fernandinho looks crackin but is he a bit old? Bet it'll cost a lot to get him off Shaktar too.

Benat?
Beñat
Modrić
Gündoğan
Dembélé

all of the level we should be looking at.

I really like the look of Gundogan. Would be perfect for us and also inject a bit of pace in the team. Dortmund sold Sahin for 8m so maybe we could do a deal ? I also like Dembele as an option but would never do a deal with Spurs as they will bleed you dry , er , unless we went for Bale !

But until we get through a group and start doing summart in europe we will continue to get groups like that cos of our seeding

Even if we were in the fourth pot we'd find it difficult to draw a group as tough as the previous two.

Sahin had a year to go on deal, same as Kagawa last season. Hence why they sold him. Lewandowski is the latest player to run down contract.

Dortmund need to sell to run club on shoestring they are funding club with. Selling a player for £30mill who will then be replaced by a £10mill-15mill player and bank the rest.

Gotze, Gundagan, Hummels and Reus all need to be enquired about.

Long term I think we'll learn more by having tougher groups than we would playing Viktoria Plzn and the like. Plus when we grow and learn and build a proper European squad, we'll end up winning a group and then we can start to learn how to play two-legged ties against good sides.

I thought it would take us five years to win the Prem, it took us four. I think it may take more than five years to get ourselves getting to the latter stages of the CL regularly, maybe it will be around five and ongoing.

-- Wed Apr 10, 2013 1:46 pm --

He didn't play well last night but I love Reus. What a player!

Seems about right timing wise, this year was a bit embarrassing though. I still reckon it comes down to pre-season (or lack of it), last years was pants. CL comes quite early in the season, you havn't got time to gel and acclimatise if everones off playin internationals.

Gotze , Gundogan and Hummels in one combined swoop for 50m and Cavani or Falcao and I'd be happy. Easily pleased hey :-)

If we play five in midfield next season we'll be fine. We look a lot better starting with only one striker, seems to suit our possession game.
I too like it but we also play well as a 4231. We just need to play the right players.
Too many times I think Mancini has tried to shoe horn players into the team to stop them moaning from not playing and keep the squad fresh. It could be argued that his is own fault.
As a club we need to find one formation and stick to it, we then only go and get players who will suit this formation.

You don't see Barca buying Grant Holt so he is "another option", they buy skillful, fast, quick footed possession players and every single game they go out and play the same way for 90mins.

If the rumors are true and we are going to move to a 4-3-3 system like Barca than that is fine. We just need to sell the likes of Kolarov, Lescott and Dzeko but then bring in someone like Digne who is similar to Clichy; quick, strong, capable of going forward and defending, Marquinhos who is similar to Kompany in that he is; quick, reads the game well and plays football and finally someone like Sanchez to replace Dzeko; very quick with the ball and without, capable of scoring and creating, capable of going down the outside or cutting through the middle.
Also what has been mentioned before is a deep lying playmaker eg Benat or Fernandinho is crucial to this formation working.
Here is an example as to how we could line up...
Silva---Aguero---Sanchez
----Yaya-----Benat
--------Garcia----------
Clichy-Nast--Komp-Richards
---------Hart--------------

Front three are all capable of drifting around the front line, Yaya can go forward and influence play as well as defending going back the same with Benat.
Garcia will sit in the midfield and just keep possession ticking over and provides a threat from set pieces.
Our back four doesn't need explaining, Having Richards back in there though is a huge boost to this formation working.

The starting 11 above can all be rotated as well for the likes of Milner as a CM or winger, Barry as CM or DM. Full backs rotate as normal and CB's as well.
Guidetti can rotate as a striker or maybe out wide? not naturally very quick but possibly could do a job if needed, maybe even someone like Suarez? could step up as well?
