Also last season the 2 qualifiers from our group were only knocked out by the eventual winners.

We need cover for Silva, cos eventually he'll get crocked. A hidden gem Benarbia-type player from the North African leagues? Don't have a clue about players from there. But Reus/Cavani/Falcao, any one of those would improve the starting XI by 20%.

in context, its called The Champions League cos you the champions of each country in it. granted you now other teams that arent to make it bigger (some should argue that champions of other countries dont even qualify because they arent as good or as glamorous).

but at the end of the day, no matter where you finish in the tournament, you'll end up facing
the top teams from the strongest leagues. We happened to get 3 teams in the group that were champions of their leagues. so any of the 4 could have qualified from the group, but the best teams did.

So, in context, we weren't good enough. Simple.

As for players to improve next season, i think this line up would go far, with cover in area's we already have:

OP still has little City syndrome.
It wasn't old Manchester City amongst Real Madrid, Dortmund and Ajax, it was Manchester City with a squad most of the european clubs would die to have, amongst Real Madrid, Dortmund and Ajax. We have the players to have at least qualified from the group but couldn't hack it for whatever reason, but not only that we pretty much embarrassed ourselves so whatever the media wrote and continue to write, they're correct - when it comes to that particular period in our season.

The OP doesn't stand alone either 90% of people commenting must still think we play in Div 2

Here's an analogy.

Put a Skoda from 1992 next to a Mondeo, Vectra and Audi from current day and what you have is a pile of shite amongst 3 fine machines.
Put a 2013 Skoda next to a Mondeo, Vectra and Audi from current day and what you have a 4 suberb cars.

OP thinks we're still a Skoda to be laughed at.

Actually, I think we are a very classy outfit I am proud to support who can play some blinding football at times, and in the main can compete with the best teams out there. We didn't do it in the CL this year, but I'm not going to slit my wrists over it - the campaign was disappointing, but could well have been so much better if we'd held on in Madrid and not cocked it up vs Ajax.

If I need to have an opinion on anything else can you let me know what it is?
