Classic Rock (Phil Collins lives, run for the hills)

Rick is probably my #2 as a player - as opposed to composer. I think Emerson is slightly more gifted technically, not that I am a musician of any kind. Certainly, Emerson seemed to be able to play anything rock / pop, classical, jazz with equal aplomb.
To be honest I am failed keyboard player but was inspired by Rick.
I’ve not heard nearly half as much of Emerson to make a comparison although I do know he was excellent too.

They both can. I agree with you that Emerson has more technical ability and panache. Some of his work on Pictures at an Exhibition is astounding. Some of wakemans solo stuff is, well, pants on ice.

Talking about Emerson, Wakeman and Banks leads me onto CR keyboard players in general; not sure if we have covered this already on this thread but some other players that I am a big fan of are:

Jan Hammer
Jon Lord - the king of the Hammond organ
John Paul Jones
Roy Bittan - epic piano tinkler
Benmont Tench
Greg Guiffria
Don Airey
Mike Garson
Manfred Mann
Billy Powell, Billy Powell

You included two of my favourites, Roy Bittan and Mike Garson. I would also propose Steve Winwood, and the wonderful Ray Manzarek who was so integral to the Doors sound. Rod Argent was ok and how about Bruce Hornsby and Dave Greenslade worth a mention just for the Roger Dean album covers.

I appreciate Jon Lord who I believe was classically trained.
More names in the mix
Eddie Jobson
Fred Schendel
Tom Brislin
Clive Nolan
Rob Reed
And of course Oliver Wakeman.
