Classic Rock (Phil Collins lives, run for the hills)

Roger Taylor of Queen gig at the Academy tomorrow. Anyone else going? Got his new solo album, Outsider yesterday
Not enthralled by it so far, but then he will never better his Fun In Space album for me.
But at least he is doing something other than dragging Fred's corpse around as Queen ... and haven't seen him front a band since The Cross, looking forward to it.

Be interested to hear how the gig is. I haven't bothered with tickets for the tour or the album.

You will be disgusted to hear that we do have tickets for Queen + AL (now next June).

Bit of double standards from me as I didn’t go and see AC/DC with Axl. However I have no problem with Queen or anyone else for that matter going out with a different singer or members.
The original members left have every right to go out earning a living and playing the music they were part of. The fans are under no illusions about what they will see so if they want to pay and go out and enjoy whats on offer, good on everyone.

AC/DC were bloody brilliant with Axl, who was so respectful to the role he was playing.

I agree entirely that remaining members of a band have a right to go out and play that music if they want to. It's then up to people to decide if it is something that they choose to pay to see.

I note that Scott Gorham is going to resurrect Thin Lizzy again next year. Don't know if either or both are fit and well enough but would love to see him get Roberston and Downey on board. Ricky Warwick will be singing and he did a very acceptable job on the one occasion I saw Lizzy post Lynott; took me a long time to accept the idea of going to see them without Phil though.

Yes, Lizzy without Phil was a difficult one , and I’m glad they did new material under the BSR banner, and they were a good band.
Didn’t know they were going out as Lizzy again, will try and see them.

As Prog Rock has had a mention, what about Curved Air?

Saw them in the very early 70s at the Students Union on Oxford Road (I was attending Stretford Tech at the time). Sonya Kristina was a great vocalist and as fit as fuck.

I was lucky I saw Thin Lizzy a couple of times before Phil passed away. I saw them in Manchester at the Apollo in 1980 and then again at the same venue in 1982 on their Renegade tour. I've never seen them without Phil, and I'm not sure how I'd feel about seeing them without him, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't.

Each to their own mate. I did go to see them with Paul Rodgers, it didn't work for me personally, but even so I respected that they tried something different. AL, for me, is just a lazy very obvious choice that reduces the name to a glorified karaoke. But if people want it ...

As for the idea of Thin Lizzy 'reforming' ... not unless they have managed to revive Phil. ;-)

I saw Lizzy six times between '76 & '80 with Phil. They did some shows in 2011 with a strong line-up that finally persuaded me to take a look and I enjoyed it. Ricky Warwick doesn't try to impersonate Phil's vocals but his voice works well with the songs.

I'll see who they get in for this version and might go for one last Lizzy gig: they have a lot of songs that deserve to be heard live.
