Yes, I saw Tom and band four times. First was supporting Nils Lofgren at The Apollo; they blew Nils away.. Last time was their final European performance, at Hyde Park, and they were superb.

I've never let my wife forget that she wouldn't go and see them in Orlando one time when we were on holiday and then, some years later, she decides Wildflowers is one of her two or three favourite albums.

Four times. That’s great.

I had a couple of Tom Petty albums in the 80s but never rated him as highly as Bruce and Mellencamp. For some reason, I never got around to listening to his back catalogue. That all changed when I saw the 4-hour Running Down A Dream documentary (the best music doc ever IMO) and was amazed at all the incredible music I’d been missing out on. I bought a load of his albums around 2010, including Wildflowers - again, 16 years late and I was blown away by it.

I notice that the 90-minute Wildflowers film that was released a few months ago is now on YouTube. Not seen it yet because I think I’ll save it for watching over Christmas.

Anyway, I hope Tom is in your top 15 as he could do with the support.

I was at that gig too they definitely played Nils off stage, I also saw them support Dylan and Roger McGuinn at the NEC
Dylan was awful that night.

Not giving to much away to say that Tom and Mellencamp are in my top 20 but are in a battle to make the 15.

My immediate reaction was: you must have some bloody good acts in your top 20.

To be fair, based on some of your previous posts about live gigs and CD collections, you're probably choosing from a much larger pool than most of us.

Not a criticism but if you'd asked for top 20's it would have been much easier to finalise.

Naturally I consider my top 20 acts to be very good but not everyone will agree about every act. Without doing spoilers, it is going to end up as a pretty unsurprising selection. I excluded a couple of bands from consideration because I doubt anyone else will vote for them. They may not have made the final cut anyway but I refuse to worry either way.

Not sure if the initial pool size is the issue but I do have albums (cd plus vinyl) by nearly 1,000 acts and I have seen over 500 acts live.

Ha ha, no problem, I'm glad I'm making you think. I've said this to a few people - if you're not feeling a bit sore about having to cut a few people out, you are not taking it seriously enough. I love The Hooters, The Rainmakers, Grant Lee Buffalo, Kula Shaker and Kevin McDermott, but they all missed the cut.
