Clattenburg (Update p59 - not selected next weekend)

In my humble opinion, if Terry hadn't been done, I don't think Chelsea would have made a complaint from the weekend. However, in some respects, I'm glad they have, IF it is proved correct, particularly in light of the earlier allegation on Talksport that he called Mikel a monkey. In any day and age, that kind of thing is utterly unacceptable.

I'm not defending Clattenburg in the slightest here, but given what he's alleged to have said, wouldn't you think it would sound more plausible for him to have said "Shut up you muppet"? In a North East accent, amid all the noise, the word "Muppet" might have been misconstrued as "Monkey".

The phrase "Shut up you muppet" is also fairly common.

Anyone who doubts Clattenburg is bent must have forgotten the incident when he was overheard slagging Bellamy and Pab Zab off to his assistants in the tunnel at half time at the Reebok last year. He told his officials to 'keep an eye on them two bastards in particular'. Zab was on the bench. Within minutes, he had sent Bells off for absolutely nothing

Chelsea have decided to go after him by making the complaint official. Going to be interesting either way. Personally, as I say in the piece, I can't see him having said it. It would take a monumental fool of proportions I cannot even fathom to do something like that. But Chelsea have seemingly consulted lawyers all day before making the decision to pursue it. They must feel there's a case to answer.
