Clattenburg (Update p59 - not selected next weekend)

Express reporting that Clattenburg may sue Chelsea for defamation. That would add another dimension to the proceedings.

To be fair, even if I was shit at my job, had someone accused me of being racist when (if, in this case) I'd not said anything of the sort, I'd be doing the same thing.

If he sued Chelsea wouldn't that also put his career as a top flight referee in doubt even if he's innocent? Because it'd suggest he has a grudge against Chelsea so even if he didn't ref their games (obviously) there would always be the suspicion that he could referee their rivals' games in a way that hurts Chelsea (which could favour us even, but I don't want that).

Whichever way this ends up, I'm pretty sure he wont ever ref a Chelsea game again.

That'll be three sides he can't referee. Everton can't be far away from being the fourth.

I wonder who the lucky club is that will benefit from all the extra games he can now referee.

I fully, 100% believed and backed the claims against Terry and Suarez, but I don't know about this one, it just seems off.
Obviously I am 100% against racism, and if it's true, then he deserves to be punished, but I'm not sure.

He's seen how badly things got for the 2 cases with Ferdinand and Evra. Surely he's just not that stupid.
Anyone could have heard him, he's wearing a mic, but it wasn't picked up on camera, or seen like he mouthed it like we saw with the other 2, and the only people who heard him were a few Chelsea players.
It just seems a bit suss.

The thing that makes me question it the most is he was connected to the other refs, maybe years ago, they might have ignored that kind of thing and backed eachother, but they've backed him. I don't think they'd dare back him in todays environment when they know the type of trouble they could get in. In the end the truth will out. If they heard him I don't think they'd dare stand next to him.

He is absolutely determined to clear his name, while Terry and Suarez weren't because they knew full well they were guilty.

I think ironically Chelsea know what to do and what not to do from their own racist Terry, when it comes to getting statements etc.
They backed Terry. Now they're against it (as they fully should be) and fighting the ref. It's just ironic.

I think if Chelsea are lying they should be docked points and fined enough to make it hurt them.
It is so malicious and if the ref is innocent, he still will struggle to get past it because it's something that will tarnish his name and reputation for a very long time.
If he's guilty than he should rightly suffer the consequences but I'm not so sure this time.

Not sure I get you. He may have said this in the heat of the moment (which is what I believe happened in terry-ferdinand case as well). Given Clattenburg's history (bellamy affair, reports about wanting to be centre of attraction) makes my belief stronger that he might have said a racist/inappropriate remark.
Also, not sure what Chelsea will gain from making a false accusation. They wont have many friends in refrees if clattenburg is proven innocent.
and, how do you come to the conclusion that he is determined to clear his name while terry and suarez were not?
Mic conversations are not recorded so even if the linesmen say they did not hear him, they cant be proven wrong. So their base is covered and they can easily back up a fellow official.

The fact that Chelsea have dropped the mata incident and are only pursuing Mikel incident indicates they may have a solid case.

So, I will not pull a Neil Warnock and start shaming Chelsea now itself.

PS: I should admit I dislike Clatterburg deeply since that Bellamy sending off.

Shock as moron discovered in 45,000 capacity football stadium

The world of football has been rocked its very foundations after footage from Saturday’s FA Cup 4th round tie between Liverpool and Manchester United showed one of the 45,000 crowd acting like a complete arsehole.

With football grounds being the last place on earth that people would expect to encounter morons, the footage has sent shockwaves through the football leagues.

“We are extremely concerned that one of the forty-five thousand people that attended the game was seen making racist gestures,” said a police spokesperson.

“We have to assume that as a result of this incident all football fans, players and management are probably racist too.”

“In fact it’s entirely reasonable to suggest that football is just one big racist hate mob chasing a ball around a field.”

Racism arrest

Fans have expressed concerns that stadiums ringing out with songs such as ‘Who ate all the pies?! Who ate all the pies?! Fair enough, I’ll have some chips instead’, could become a thing of the past.

“Football grounds have always been considered a celebration of diversity and tolerance,” said Millwall fan Gary Barnes.

“I remember a few seasons ago there was a fella stood near me who expressed his dissatisfaction at a refereeing decision by suggesting that the referee was unsure of what his role was.”

“Several people within earshot fainted, but I managed to diffuse the situation by highlighting that the referee is only human and these mistakes tend to even themselves out over the course of the season.”

“No-one wants to see that sort of behaviour week in, week out.”

Top 10 football chants that fans now fear could disappear.

Just how many teams in one league can a referee "not referee" before he becomes a liability to that league ?

He should never have got his job back after his 8 month suspension for me, but its time he was now dumped for the benefit of football.
