We will have to agree to disagree. I know he was no great shakes and was particularly dodgy when put under pressure for crosses but I don't think he was anywhere near as bad as Bravo has been. I would suggest you're underestimating quite how bad Bravo has been this season but I know you'd deny that.

I would. Sadly, some BM posters do not afford him any mitigation so as far as they see, he has been responsible for every goal conceded. He has not shone, we can agree on that and he has a lot more in his locker that we have yet to see on a consistent basis, whether pep can restore his confidence, we all await.

I keep reading that he's a world class keeper but I don't really think there's much to support that assertion. He may be good or very good but his career doesn't equal world class.
He's played in Chile. What do any of us know about the game there? His international record points to his having played a lot and had some success but international football is very weak indicator. They play a lot of dead rubbers and friendlies and name me any country's second best goalie. They almost never play. Outside Chile he's played mostly for Real Sociedad. Almost 230 games. He played a big chunk of those in the Spanish Second Division. If he was world class, why did nobody snap him up? He played 70 games for Barcelona nearly all in La Liga. He's already played more Champions League games for City than for Barcelona. They didn't play him. So he played 2 seasons behind a strong Barcelona team. He's at City because he can pass the ball well. Not because he's a world class keeper. Like de Michelis was brought in because he was used to playing a high line and winning the ball early unlike our other CBs of the time. He was a model for the others to follow. Bravo's the same. Of course Guardiola is going to say he's a great keeper. What else can he say? He's not all that but he can pass it? Joe Hart has played more games and is 5 years younger. Not saying Joe's better or anything just the fact. Buffon at 5 years older has played almost twice as many games. I think some are using the term world class a bit loosely in this case.

He was consider World class because he's spent the last 3 seasons being considered as such by his peers and a group of goalkeeping experts from over 50 countries whos acronym escapes me.

Maybe he is a world class player who is struggling with confidence/form? Do you remember just how poor De gea was in his first season. Far worse than Bravo has been.

The media love to criticise Bravo, and sadly a lot of blues seem ready to join in and criticise him because it's an easy target. He gets blamed for every goal City concede even when it's not his fault like the goal against Hull. I think City took him out of the firing line when it became obvious that the media were going to really target him. he is a stick with which to beat Guardiola because of course he let Joe go.
Just out of curiosity- if he wasn't at fault for the goal against Hull (and I don't mean no one else made mistakes) but that must mean you thought he shouldn't be saving it? Seriously? It was so slow a shot there was no need for the replay to be in slow-mo. Of course we all see things differently, but I can not see how anyone can't think he should have got down quicker and stronger?

Far worse? Really? He was susceptible to a few mistakes but you could still see his potential and still made very good saves. His mistakes all tended to stem from not commanding his area as well, I remember that being the biggest criticism levelled at him. Not to mention he had age on his side, the rags didn't buy a world class keeper like we apparently did.

Bravo has made a variety of errors, and he's supposedly world class. He's not got age on his side and we're nowhere near as competitive as we should be for numerous reasons. He was also dropped in the league for 3 months. The 2 examples are far from comparable.

He's not making errors, he's just not saving anything.

De Gea was 20 years old when he joined United. Bravo was 33 when he joined City. De Gea had the luxury of "having time", Bravo hasn't in my opinion. When you send a proven, good enough goalkeeper like Hart away and replace him with a 33 year old who then flops and who has not shown even a glimpse of being better than Joe Hart at preventing goals... then you deserve getting a bit of stick I think.

You can see the potential for the team with this fellow's distribution. He needs a good save or two to build confidence. He has it in him. Saw him make a worldie in the Copa America final against Argentina. Think it was from a Sergio header.

Also can't argue with Pep too much when he says that a lot of the goals Bravo has conceded have been down to team defensive lapses that have left him hung out to dry. He hasn't been impressive and has made many mistakes, but for the potential gains he brings, I'd really like to see a Bravo in good form before the season ends. Wouldn't like to bin him just yet.
