Climate Change is here and man made

Many models predict the global population stabilizing at around 11 billion and that we will be able to sustainably feed a population of that size. Again, being positive, I'd like to think they are right. I cannot do anything to change it anyway.
Does this consider though the destruction of the environment that feeds us? I've heard loads of people saying that due to climate change we'll soon have to eat insects, are these the insects that will be mostly extinct in 50 years?

You have to remember that 45% of our food is imported purely because we would all be starving if we had to rely on British farms alone.

I appreciate this is just one report, but it is pretty scary.

The headline: Humans can no longer stop Global Warming from intensifying over the next 30 years.

A Hotter Future Is Certain, According to Climate Change Report (msn.com)

Global warming 'unequivocally' human driven, at unprecedented rate: IPCC | | UN News
It’s one of many reports and studies done over decades by top research centres and universities worldwide. It’s serious and people aren’t taking it seriously!

Green issues concern me far and away above any political or social issues that are or have been going on. I have no idea why so few people are bothered by it. I think other topics of conversation are insignificant compared to Green issues: Brexit, class/gender/race equality, the Tories this/Labour that, who’s in the White House, what some celebrity has said… they all mean fucking nowt compared to the planet. Yet take a look in the Politics Forum on here, and what people talk about on other platforms of social media - it’s mostly fucking tripe about some political or social issue that means fuck all compared to climate change and all the things that come with it.

The world needs to get real when it comes to this. Everywhere you look there are studies showing the degradation of everything: oceans and freshwater, forests, soil, air, heat, flora and fauna, extremes, desertification, disease… all gradually getting worse, creating a worse planet to live on and edging us ever closer to an eventual end point.

Yet people are more bothered about something Boris Johnson has said or what his hair looks like or what complexion middle aged white mens’ faces have. Or - like with Covid - there are the deniers who claim there’s nothing to worry about, it’s all made up, or those who spread false opposing views with the reliability of a six year old’s tall story from an English lesson.

There are initiatives that have taken heed but it’s nowhere near enough and not moving anywhere near quickly enough. The world’s motivation and action towards tackling it is the equivalent of someone saying they’re starting ‘Couch to 5K’ on Monday when they’ve got an Ironman race with Jan Frodeno on Saturday and another with Patrick Lange on Sunday and thinking they’re going to win both. We are coming through with schemes and initiatives but we are miles behind where we need to be.

Very true, and as a bit of context: if the UK ended all emissions today, in about two years Chinese emissions would’ve increased enough to offset all the benefit, based on their current trend.

That‘s just fatalism and an attempt to feel good about doing nothing.

You reckon the Chinese will want to spend their days living on a planet that has gone to shit? You think that benefits them?

Climate change is clearly an issue and the last few months seem to have caught everyone’s attention. I don‘t get the denialism anymore that I get Covid denialism because why wouldn’t it be in our interests in seeking to ‘green’ the economy and our energy use irrespective of the risk of climate change.

It’s like wearing a quality mask in a crowded enclosed space during a pandemic. You may or may not catch Covid if you went mask less, but why risk it?

Same with climate change, pumping pollutants into the planet may or may not cause climate change, but it definitely isn’t healthy for us so why risk it? What is the argument for carrying on and doing nothing? Should we pump out more pollutants and live in a sewer? Are denialists against clean air, and for putting lead in petrol and drinking murky water?

The thought of paying tax, having less shiny new toys or being inconvenienced is too much for them. This has always been the view of selfish arseholes I’m afraid. The giveaway is that they always talk about human survival. The effects on the ocean, other species or how the world will look is of no concern to them. Over population and it’s affects now doesn’t bother them in Suburbia.

Go back a decade or so and they will have been claiming the whole thing was a hoax, now it’s becoming harder to claim that so they are trying to dilute the impact it will have.

No, as I said, it’s just some context. My point being the only worthwhile solutions are international ones. These solutions will require us in the UK to fulfil our obligations so that’s definitely not an argument for doing nothing. China probably stands to be as impacted as anywhere so I expect they’ll want to act too.

Yep, and China is already the biggest investor in renewable energy. Granted they're also burning through fossil fuels, but it's not like they're blind to reality.

I spent the first 20 years of my life in Adelaide mate, I am well aware of Australias historical relationship with bushfires.

The point is it's getting worse and will continue to be. The Australian government needs to hang there heads in shame to be honest, the prime minister is a fuckin disgrace.
What do you propose he do regarding climate change and Co2 emissions in the three years he has been in the job?

he has made some poor decisions no doubt we all do but on climate change he policy of technology over taxes is the right one.

We stuffed up our electricity platform by cow toeing to China who laugh at the rest of the world when it comes to climate change at our expense and so we went from cheap electricity to expensive subsidised electricity as they did in Germany.

Why we didn't go nuclear as a LABOUR Government under Bob Hawke wanted is beyond me but politicians are usually weak and don't do the unpopular for the long term benefit to save their job.

We have had fewer bushfires in the past 50 years than we had in the previous 50 years.

Some recent ones have been fairly intense but fewer lives have lost despite the fact that too many people want to live in areas that are bush fire hazard areas which is their right of course.

Our footprint is 20 per cent down on 2005 levels what about those across the ditch whose levels are up 57 per cent.

Do you think the greenie Jacinta does nothing more than lip service , she doesn't even drive an electric car?

She needs to a lot more than suck up to China , their human right abuses and the fact they keep her economy afloat and she never calls them out on their approach to climate change..

the green movement is a disgrace , crying poor in the main but doing nothing practical other than scream from the bleachers and covering themselves with paint while they damage property in protest and frighten our children.

its nothing like it used to be and all those things you do well are now done by those of the right of politics who can afford to volunteer their time to save the likes of the helmeted honey heater etc and other endangered species while these baffoons sip late and crush avocado in a coffee shop with their mothers money.

He could have ensured the environmentalists spent more time with the aboriginals who have a long history and understanding of living with bushfires and ignored the greens and their desire to have the whole country a native park land unable to be managed by good people like you who want to make a difference but other than that there are many more significant issues to address with our Government than climate change.

Spot on mate, we inhabit a planet that is unique and has so many natural wonders including it just being here and these dickheads aren’t concerned at what we are doing to it. We are raping it as we multiply but not to worry a robot will wipe our arses in the future so all is good.
