Club Badge (merged)

Gaudion M (whose post that is) has carefully followed this thread and tallied the contents. His summary is a fair representation of the consensus view on here and it ill behoves you or anyone else to criticise him. The agreed core elements are entirely compatible with a new badge and do not require a return to an earlier one.
It is quite wrong to try and tell folk with honest opinions what the club will or won't decide when you don't have a scooby.

I wasn't aware that I had criticised any particular individual but thanks for pointing this out. The "agreed core elements" as you put it are in effect the constituent elements of the old badge which some proper fans on here are pushing for a return to (or something very close). We've already been informed on this thread that this isn't going to happen.

Nope, I made it very clear from the start, you've just insisted on chasing the date for some reason and then going on about Italians and stars and how it must have been an Italian Kappa employee because the badge was 'continental'. Woops.

Edit: Oh and the Eagle will stay, they'll be canvassing fans all over the globe and what do you think they recognise most easily of all the elements on the badge?

No. I mentioned the latin was introduced in 1997 by the Kappa designer who created the badge.

You said you "doubt it".

You didn't specify whether you doubted it was done in 1997, doubted it was done by a Kappa employee, or both.

Given you simply said you "doubt it" it's reasonable to assume you meant both.

I dug out the original press release, trying to find if there was any mention of it. I wasn't being pedantic, I wasn't being argumentative, if anything I was trying to be helpful.

I wasn't sure who had designed it myself, there was no mention of who designed it on the press release, but it did mention it was a new motto. I highlighted this bit, again trying to be helpful. I thought we were just having a general discussion.

You then came back with your [sarcasm] comment and turned it in to an argument.

We'll wait and see on the eagle. It's important to remember the only people who are allowed to vote are "Cityzens" the vast majority of whom are season ticket holders.

they are only asking season ticket holders in the main for opinions. as it should be it shouldnt be decided by a load of people who have never been to a game and have no idea about manchester or our history. based on all the opinions I've seen from existing ticket holders and match going fans most prefer the old badges.

Just to be clear – I’m not pushing for an old badge. Of the two old badges (pre 97) the first looks very dated and I don’t like the colours and the second features the rose that I don’t like.

I personally would like something that is ‘instantly recognisable’ as a City badge i.e. it must have some elements of our previous badges and the most consistent feature is the shield with the ship and 3 rivers. In fact I’d be happy if it was just that and nothing else!
However i expect something very modern / simple and most likely round!

If it has to be completely new – what about a duo tone image of Phil Jones’ gawping face with the numbers 93:42 underneath it.

It's not a straight vote though is it? They're canvassing and they'll canvass on social media as well before they make any decisions.

Well it was certainly a Kappa graphic designer who designed the badge. Kappa being an Italian company, I assume they were responsible for the "continental feel" stars. It's not unreasonable to assume they also came up with the latin bit.

They're still going to consider the branding element though, it's one of the reasons that it's almost certain the badge will be to some extent circular and the Eagle is the most distinctive and recognisable part of the current badge.

it might be, but it still makes no sense and design wise looks crap imo. i honestly prefer the old badges design wise they are simple but i instantly recognize them with city especially the ship. if we change our badge to a more original design it will in time become recognizable. if you ask a load of people on twitter or Facebook then they will vote for the eagle because most of them have no idea about our history and our past badges. the branding element should be what repserensts us as a club- the eagle doesn't represent us imo

its an eagle of course it will stand out, but its not us

How about something similar to this mate?

It's got a similar core design to our original 1930s badge.

Same white circle as the 1972 "rose badge"

Same sky blue and white shield of the current 1997 designed eagle badge.

Same outer trim / text design as NYCFC and Melbourne City FC.

Represents City's past, present and future.

Also the colour scheme make it instantly recognisable as Manchester City whether on a shirt, on a website, newspaper, social media etc.

If they were canvassing everyone equally mate, they wouldn't make the vote exclusive to "Cityzens". The reason they are making the vote exclusive to "Cityzens" is because that group is weighted in favour of long standing loyal fans.

The club value the opinion of our core traditional support on this issue more than they do casual fans around the globe who have a passing interest. And quite right that they should, too.

To be fair...even though I hate the current badge I wouldn't be adverse to an eagle on the badge providing it was tasteful, classy and within a roundel..I just think the current eagle looks like a chicken

The badge will be round. That seems to be something everyone is in favour of and fits with the other CFG badges.

Anyone like the idea of incorporating a cog into the design?

It's round, it connects to our industrial past, it relates to the building of our recent history and a hard work ethic, which I feel our club and team are firmly adhering to.

Just popped into my head

Not trying to argue with you mate, but if you want a round badge and and eagle, have you got any idea how you'd like this done? Is there a mock up on here that you like?

I'm not sure if you've filled out the questionnaire, but the very first question is would you like the eagle or a circle. There was no option for both.

Maybe his original idea of a sea eagle could still be incorporated but out of sight under the water catching its dinner.

I said Eagle, I'd rather leave the badge as is than lose it, we've had that badge since I was 12.

This one wasn't bad although the Eagle design needs polishing a little bit, it also creates room for the est. date which is important to a lot of blues. Could lose the initials out of the centre though.

Just needs the Lancashire rose under the ship instead of those white stripes.

See I don't mind that at all

Captures both elements new and old
