Club Badge (merged)

The opinions of match going fans who have been going for numerous years is more important than someone who has started supporting the club within the last 7 years, where ever the fuck they come from.

Obviously those too young can't help it, I'm talking about bandwagon jumpers.

Your idea seems to be based on what your mates have said they want, and some posts on facebook.

There is a huge majority on Bluemoon who have said the want a round badge. The M.E.N poll showed a huge majority want the round badge. The club said the online vote was "overwhelmingly" in favour of a return to a round badge.

It's a bit far fetched to suggest Bluemoon, the M.E.N and the club have all conspired to get rid of the eagle in complete contrast to what "most fans" want.

I dont use social media I made an observation of majority opinion I noticed as a reaction to the news on Bluemoonrisingtv, others said the same of facebook but downplayed it(looked like damage control so I'm guessing it was much of the same as what I saw already). It's also stretching it a bit(I see what you're attempting to do there) to try and claim it would be tinfoil hat conspiracy theorist territory to actually use a bit of common sense and look at the CFG badges to see it's something they want and makes sense for them, they might have even known large portions of the core support wanted it before they even began, making it all the more easier. Everything else is a bonus, publicity, feedback on which elements they'd like maybe even looked at some fan made efforts. I'm not saying it's a bad thing either but it is what it is.

You also confuse the idea of keeping the same badge as being the same as keeping just the eagle as an element of it... we've been over that already.

As for the MEN poll it was never asked whether they wanted the eagle gone (51% is a majority to keep the current badge )... were they given the option of a round badge that also had the eagle preserved as an element of it? No they weren't as far as I know, it's something that's been missed from each of the sources you mention too.

It seems to me you want to view this as a very black and white subject... either you hate the eagle or you want to keep the current badge. There will be those that don't care about the eagle but aren't fussed if it stays, just as there will be those who simply don't mind it but wouldn't kick up a fuss if it went. Those people probably haven't voted or perhaps a number did but weren't given the choices for their truest viewpoint in the options in said polls and large sections who simply wanted to keep the current badge have seemingly gone unheard judging by the reaction. I see that the majority here don't want them heard because none of them could possibly be Mancunian or match goers because they aren't here in this thread... to be fair it could be their own fault for not taking notice of the vote in some cases.

Honestly, regardless of the "fans consultation" results ... the circular option was the only one on the table in my opinion.

It is that display I'm picturing somehwere on the Campus, in a reception area, there is a wall with the MCFC, NYCFC, MelCFC and Yokohama badges lined up .... and I just thought .... i'm sure they are wanting them to look the same .... so it looks neat, proper and tidy. Eventually there is will be 4 circular badges there, i have no doubt, hence why i did the 'Tale of Four Cities' image years ago.

Yeah I'd agree with that too... it's not really a criticism of the club for doing it though, it's just the more likely reason. I think they've earned a few decisions like that though to be honest and they've tried to do it in the right way too.

I think 7 years is quite a long time to be a fan of anything(as long as they aren't switching between the top clubs or something like that), also like I said it's one thing to give more importance/weight to certain hardcore lifelong factions but to give any fans no say at all? I dont get how you can have that attitude in this day and age.

All I'll say to anyone doubting whether this was a genuine consultation or not...

Did you attend the consultation space?

Did you let your kids do the quizzes and leave their comments?

Did you learn all there was to know about the badges, elements and club's history?

Did you watch the videos explaining the badges?

Did you talk with fans? Did you listen to the Bluemoon podcasts or Blue Tuesday programmes etc? BBC show still available here http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p035t406

Did you come to the talks/lectures and question me about the elements, voice your opinion or challenge the mcfc officials like Danny Wilson, Justice Ellis, Matt Lowery & Lee Kenny who were there willing to engage?

Were you the ones who asked about the 'conspiracy' at those talks and receive an answer from the club and my own interpretation?

Did you fill in the questionnaire stressing your preference and then in the free format comments area spell out your views?

I could go on but the point is that if you did all if the above (and more) and still believes badge was sat there waiting, views were ignored, the majority wanted something else etc etc etc then that's up to you, but if you did all of the above then surely you could see the efforts that the club, fans, me and others went to to ensure views were listened to? I'm proud this club - our club- did this. Who else bothers like this? At a time when clubs are slagged off for not listeningCity opened up a variety of channels for us to submit our views - they even had colouring stuff aimed at 8 and under to ensure all age groups participated. If we didn't use them fine, but we had the chance.

Next time we may not get the chance because as fans we think it's fixed anyway.

As Gary said.I dont think "Hull Tigers" went through this process of supporter involvement, or Cardiff went they went to the sh*t coloured shirts.

I was highlighting the bandwagon jumpers who "support" City from miles away who've never been to Manchester. Why the fuck should they have impact on our badge?

The history of the club clearly means fuck all to them considering they're all over Facebook saying the older badges, including the coat of arms, are shit.

Agree totally, I posted something similar pages ago.

I've got a Miami Dolphins hat and occasionally watch them on TV, they're my American Football team but I'd expect to have fuck all impact in any club decisions.
 
I was reading a couple of articles about our badge that came up on the Newsnow feed. It was interesting to see what non city fans were saying.

They reported that the decision had been made to revert back to a round badge but interestingly they assumed it was a given that the eagle would still form part of that as this was the part of the badge most recognised world over as being Man City.

Whether you are for or against the eagle there is no doubt in my mind that a badge without one anywhere on it would take some getting used to by the rest of the public. From a purely marketing point of view it would make sense to keep it.

Plenty of high profile clubs have redesigned their badges with little or no impact whatsoever

Thank god City's most loyal and longstanding fans get to pick the elements of the new badge, and not some non-City fans from around the world who use Newsnow.

The badge is there to represent the identity of the football club. The club's identity is that it represents the city of Manchester and it's people. The eagle has got absolutely no connection to the city or it's people, despite what a car rental executive in Arkansas might like.

Yet again the point I was making has been missed. I said from a purely marketing point of view. The articles were not blogs they were from newspapers around the World. Like it or not we are strongly associated with the eagle now. If I was part of the design team I think I would take that into consideration. The club has a duty to listen to what the fans want but at the same time be mindful of how the world sees us. We are unique as being a global group and aspects of the badge recognised throughout the the World is bound to be a consideration. I'm not sure what car rentals has to do with that.

Whilst I agree doesn't the eagle now have a place in our history simply for the reason of it being our crest during our lowers/highest points?

I don't think the point you were making hasn't been missed, bud. The car rental guy was an example of "how the world sees us", he represents the wider world, the casual football fan who is not a City fan. To me, their opinion, and what they think represents Manchester City is not really that important. What's important is what our core fan base thinks, the loyal fans who have stuck through the team for years, it's their opinion that counts.

If Jerry (the car rental guy) currently associates the eagle with City, I'm sure over time he'll eventually get used to the round badge with "Manchester City" written around the outside. It might even grab his attention and be a conversation piece with his friends that we've changed our badge.

The reason I'm saying the wider world's view is irrelevant is this. I've got a passing interest in South American football, I love watching Argentina and Brazil play, and over the years I don't mind watching the odd Columbia, Uruguay and Chile game. If you were to ask me what images most represent Columbia to me I'd probably say Pablo Escobar and Carlos Valderama's afro. Now I'm sure the people of Columbia might take offence at that, and they'd want neither of those things anywhere near their badge. And they'd be right, it should be for them to decide, not me.

What the world associates with us at the moment pales in to insignificance in comparison with what the hard core support of the club feel represents the club and the city best.
