Club Badge (merged)

Haha! Nothing mate, if you like them good for you for still wearing them. That's my point, everyone has got different taste.

What do you mean 'still wearing them'?!

You make me sound like a right old ****..I'm only 42

What are the kids wearing these days?!

Your post has depressed me

I'm off out to buy a Harley Davidson

Fuck the badge

Haha shit sorry mate, it was only meant to be a light hearted post, I didn't mean to upset anyone!

For all I know all the cool kids might all be wearing bootcut jeans now. I just used them as an example because I don't see them around much at the moment, but these things go in cycles, 70s, 90s, they must be due a comeback by now! You're ahead of the curve! ;-)

I think you're getting "fulfilling a brief" confused with good design. The Melbourne badge definitely fulfills the brief of tying in with CFG and representing Melbourne, but it doesn't mean the design works.

The worst designed corporate logo I have ever seen is the First Advice logo we used to have on our shirts. "Advice" was in a speech bubble. Advice was their brand and putting it in a speech bubble indicated to the viewer that the company spoke sense and gave good advice. Did it fit the brief? Yes. Did it work from a design point of view? Did it balls.

Same with the eagle in a circle, it kind of fits the brief, but as for the design working, no, absolutely not.

Rafael Esquer called the Melbourne badge "A terrible missed opportunity." With respect, I'll take his opinion on design over yours or the Melbourne fans who you say like it.

Your last paragraph is a rather odd thing to say. If the Melbourne fans like it, then that is all that matters. The opinion of Rafael Esquer is no more valid than anyone else. Design is purely subjective and as they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder

You're absolutely right that it's in the eye of the beholder, and if you read my two previous posts you'd see that I made exactly the same point.

There are certain standards that are accepted in the creative industries though. The Cheeky Girls aren't likely to be winning any Grammy's any time soon. Your local kebab shop probably won't win much praise from food critics. Civic car park in Wythenshawe won't be winning any architecture design awards, and the Melbourne badge or the eagle squashed in a circle won't be looked upon favourably by people in the graphic design community. It doesn't mean people aren't entitled to like them though, some inevitably will, lots of people love kebabs.

Spot on. I don't give a fuck what Rafael Esquer thinks. I am far more interested in fellow City fans opinions on our badge.

I dont think we will see the new design until the end of the season and the launch of new kits.

So much stock to sell right now with the old badge on and it will make it much more difficult to do that if a new design is out there for all to see.

I don't see the point in announcing a new badge till next season. Tbh it would be disrespectful to fans who bought this years shirts.

I see you're posts, you did indeed say the same. It was your comment about 'taking his opinion on design overs yours or the Melbourne fans' that I found odd and just because he says it's a missed opportunity doesn't make it so.

I'm sure some designer may say an eagle within a circle is sound from a design perspective, would you then agree with them.

Some event at city this week, Thursday, no cameras or phones allowed by people attending and working at the event, something similar to last years launch of this years kits at gorton monastery to club officials and sponsors.

A shield in a circle looks shit, just cause we've grown accustomed to it don't mean it was some well thought=out design way back when...is a ship in a circle in some secret design book that dont contain an eagle in a circle? Can a ship or shield be adequately scribed to a circle, i don't recall seeing it...

I'm not saying Gav or tashy are on the mischief stroke but after retiring from putting up any further offerings then making a comeback...an eagle in a circle with the ship in a further circle could not make it's way onto this thread...if it had we'd have seen what works and what does'nt. Just mongy cherry picked variants containing both Football Club and MCFC...

I think i really am gonna have to spout all can for the return of blue shorts...in fact fuck it, i'm gonna write in for black shorts/sky blue top....bonny as fuck.

Firstly, the idea that all the Melbourne fans love the badge is completely speculative. Secondly, even if a majority do like it, they're a team playing in a league that's 5 years old, and a lot of the designs of badges of other teams in the league are diabolical, so they're seeing the badge through different eyes.

As I said before, anything artistic is open to interpretation. Everyone has different taste. Some people prefer to listen to LMFAO than The Beatles. But I wouldn't take those people's views on music seriously.

Same with the people who like the eagle inside a circle, of course they're entitled to like it, my 6 year old nephew loves jumping around to LMFAO, but I'm not going to take his views seriously on The White Album.

Following my PSG post earlier, wanted to see how the designs i did would look PSG two tone monochrome-esque in blue and white (unnsure how skyblue it comes out, my new tv settings arent right i think ... looks lazer blue on mine) .... then did a partner Cityzens badge to accompany it, with players and fans ... to mske it less 'corporate' .... that was the intention anyways .... i cant sleep .... help me .....

Still think you'll see something more stylized.

PSG, Arsenal, juve, Chelsea, NYCFC- all reduced the badge to a distinct shape with one central element the brand hangs on.

If we see any return to the shield then I'm not sure it'll stand up across all the use cases we see now that didn't exist 20 years ago.

PSG. Wasnt that just the Sponsor part that was changed, i'm sure its quicker to steam on a transfer than embroider a crest badge though.

Was there a commerate badge too, i didnt notice?? I think they've added the Je Suis Paris under their crest but again, would think they is just another steam on transfer added to their existing stock.

still think they will want about 6 months prior to sort it all out, they wont want any rush if they can avoid it. Expect an announcement in January/Feb time, no point doing it now to hamper Xmas sales of the current crest stock.

Nope, someone else, and I never said football.

Wow seriously, how have you not got a job as a designer ! I think people forget that you do this as a hobby and not a job. Great design !

As you're clearly the best on here when it comes to design, how about a design as above but in the middle just have 1894.

Could the year be inside the shield or no shield at all.

Not sure if it will help you sleep, but you never know eh
