Club Badge (merged)

Lol! To be honest the only Duchy I know is the one that gets passed to the left hand side.

I'm not sure that a few quotes from this Duchy in the 90s really holds much relevance to the local governance to Manchester as a city though?

Talking of local government, the fact Greater Manchester is about to have an elected, accountable mayor, with unprecedented devolved powers, any relevance Lancashire may have had to Manchester on a local government level will be completely wiped out, if it's not already.

You mean the elected mayor we rejected 2 the idea of 2 years ago.

You seem to be championing the city council, that bar the city centre regen have left quite a few areas of Manchester underfunded and a mess, and then you have the shambles that is the gardens, the refusal or objection to a permament memorial to peterloo, the infamous tommy ducks affair and various other mistakes made, yes they have regenerated the city, but zdon't be fooled that if the shiek hadn't arrives bradford/beswick/holt town would be getting any regeneration.

But this thread is about the badge not the inner workings of GMC I was born 76 4 years after we adminstatively left Lancashire but have always considered myself as Mancunian and Lancastrian

If anyone with some computer skills could make a background for iPhone on the new badge on sky blue background I'd be eternally grateful

Think the club have done a decent job with this

Didn't want the rose but others did and it's about the majority and not individual taste and I think it looks ok

We are now an institution and not just a football club we are now at a different level we once were and will progress even further under our owners

The badge in my eyes projects what the majority wanted

That part I have bolded I view as spot on

But it will not stop the individuals as a small minority banging on as if they are a majority - they cannot accept an outcome that is not what they wanted. Some of them, I suspect, would take the opportunity to moan whatever the design had been

Quite a lot of discussion debating whether the Lanc. Rose should be included as Manchester is no longer considered to be in Lanc. by those in power
However something which is overlooked is how quite extensively people who reside in Lancashire contribute significantly to Manchester in terms of employment/economy and so on.
Many people born in Manchester now live in Lancashire and vice versa.
Everyday thousands of people commute into Manchester from Lancashire (vice versa)

It isn't exactly a million miles away is it. you're talking about a symbol which represents a mere walk across the road from being in Manchester to then enter Lancashire.

It could be worse guys????

You could say the same about Cheshire no reason to put a slab of cheese or a cat on the badge

Re: the f.c.
As has been hinted 'Manchester City' branding may be used for other things including hotel, leisure etc. What I have not seen mentioned is that 'Manchester City' could also been used for other sports teams that may be based at the Etihad Campus in the future, similar to Barcelona (though they do use fc barcelona as the name of their basketball team) or the Sport verein (sports club) based teams in Germany, that cover a multitude of sports. (e.g. S.V. Hamburg).

By not having FC or for that matter SC for sports club many different things can be part of the club.

Today a football club, tomorrow world domination[emoji3]

And does the Manchester coat of arms have a red rose?

Yep, but that's not the point. I've said a few times I like the rose on the badge and have no issue with it.

The issue we've been discussing is people saying that Manchester is still essentially in Lancashire. It isn't, for all the reasons I've explaned.

Where you feel it belongs is a rather different issue from where it actually belongs.

Cheers Colin, did these renders and posted a few days ago aswell

Another reason why i dont like the design, for this reason. The bevel/emboss and light source look to be coming from the wrong direction to me.

The ship and gold shield have shadows that dictate that the light is coming from a western to eastern direction, yet your emboss light direction appears to be coming from north-east to south-west and east to west .... its all very confusing. Not your fault, if the badge is in a room with light sources that create shadows from the badge, it contradicts the shadows on the badge design.
