Club World Cup - Summer 2025

A Dortmund fan told me that they're bringing 1000 fans and that the German media want them or Bayern to win the competition

In contrast the first headline on the "impartial" BBC football website is "50,000 empty seats at the Chelsea game"

I think we all know which fans those type of headlines are aimed at
The media narrative here is ludicrous. So far the three highest crowds have been 80,000, 61,000 and 55,000 and the three lowest have been 21,000, 22,000, and 26,000 (for games played on weekdays during working hours). These are huge attendances for group matches. Much higher than the CL early stages for starters. The coverage so far has been the very definition of fake news. I watched the Boca game on TV last night. The atmosphere was fantastic.

EDIT: For comparison the lowest gates in the CL League Phase this season were: 8,752, 9,241, and 9,590 and the highest were 81,000 (Dortmund);75,000 (Bayern) and 74,000 (Real). Very few of the League Phase matches were sell-outs.

Yes and the BBC should have a look at some of the crowds for the 1966 World Cup. 13k for a game at Hillsborough.

I’m not sure the organisers will want large groups of fans from the teams themselves. Imagine ultras from a South American team and a European team clashing somewhere. I think if this competition takes off it’ll kick off big time eventually in the future, it’s just the tribal nature of some clubs. Especially without crowd segregation in the stadiums. Can’t see the UK ever hosting it.
I hope we don't meet up with Boca in this tournament, there's a lot of friction with the Argies at the moment.

There has not been a single World Cup or Euros where all the early matches have been sold out. The same is true of the CL. The BBC coverage is totally distorted as usual with no attempt at balance or context.

I found this graphic in the Metro https://metro.co.uk/2025/06/14/club-world-cup-2025-prize-money-round-by-round-breakdown-23404324/ Not the best source but something.

It suggests City will get a participation fee of c. £25m plus performance related bonuses as per the graphic

On top of this if we win this tournament we will get a huge lift in all our commercial revenues simply for being the official World Champions. We have already overtaken our Trafford neighbours for revenues but next season we will grind them into the dust. It is almost "jelly and ice cream" time!

I think the potential flaw with the CWC is that unlike the WC, virtually everyone sees a European winner.
Only Brazil and Argentina are in the top tier of winners in modern times at the WC and both countries lose most of their best players to European clubs.
Having said that I hope the QF’s onwards produce a feast of football with one or two South American teams still standing. Top that off with a triumphant City and some fuses at the BBC,Sky, MSM and the cartel will be beyond repair.

It is a great chance for the best South American teams to develop and improve. They have massive fan bases and deserve to be at the top table.

Yes, and to accommodate the viewing habits of European audiences, some matches were scheduled during U.S. working hours.

I was at Flamengo v Esperance last night, all mixing well and having a great time, so happy to be there.
I couldnt help think how negative in comparion some English are.
A Flamengo tv guy interviewed me at The Rocky Steps after I told him I wanred to win it and that we had a loyal fanbase.Told him I knew guys who were in the US for a month with City.

On my way to Fluminense v Dortmund today.

The constant sneering from the British press and media at this competition is tiresome and reminiscent of the attitude of the haughty British towards the World Cup and European Cup when they were launched. But perhaps if any of the Red Shirt Cartel were involved it might be different?

Also constant claims by the same British media that no one is interested and that attendances would be poor is somewhat at odds with the impressive crowds for the opening games and TV audiences from the rest of the world.
More important than utds comedy tour to South East Asia. Have the BBC sent their Senior Football Reporter this time?

Enjoy it. The trip of a lifetime. What football is all about. The sneering hacks could not be more out of touch.

Have they got anything going on at the stand on the beach?
I was there last week and they were building it. Said they had an event there on Saturday to commemorate the start of the tournament.
Didn't see anything at the beach proper. I think it was Mango's that had the big screen set up out front and a beer garden style of setting.

Absolutely correct. I live in the USA so I’ll be at work tomorrow when City plays but I’ll have that DAZN app watching it. But it’s tough to get to the games during work hours. But the competition has been good so far. Good games and I actually like seeing some of these clubs who would never play each other if it weren’t for this expanded club wc
