Cockney blues

I had a cockney lad next to me and was talking to a couple from Ipswich before kick off, doesn't bother me in the slightest where they're from. Madness how someone can be so arsed with it.

No point justifying it mate, he's a prick. Is it up to him whether someone can support city whether they're from manchester or not? He's gonna cry himself to sleep now.

One of the points I was trying to make with the world getting smaller part, is that in 2008 when it was me and my lad, you had one "non manc" today there are two "non mancs" and in 5 - 10 years should son produce more there could be 4 or 5. All that with lineage that is in Manchester from at least 1800. If son produces two and they produce 2 each the non Manchester fans should grow. So no one has the right to judge a fan as a glory hunter based purely upon accent. There are now so many reasons that people support clubs (not just city). One bloke I drink with is a Newcastle fan, he hasn't ever been to Newcastle and he is in his sixties... but his dad was from Newcastle, and the rest of his extended family... so he is justified... and who do you think he raised his son to support.

I don't really go to games anymore as I feel uncomfortable speaking with my south Midlands accent. other city fans used to say I must be mad travelling that far to watch that crap back in the old days. Now I can feel daggers when ever a manc hears we speak. I just know what they're thinkin.

Tell them to go fuck themselves.

Exactly mate

This thread reminds me of a City v Watford game in the mid-80's when the Kippax sang to the 30-40 away fans gathered in the Platt Lane

"We hate cockneys and we hate cockneys"

Because Hertfordshire is definitely within hearing distance of the Bow Bells.

I remember a game against 'Boro in about 1992. "We hate Geordies and we hate Geordies" a significant number of blues on the Kippax sang to the 'Boro contingent on the other side of the segregation. A fair few City fans were scratching their heads when the 'Boro fans returned the chant. Obviously, know-it-all here took great delight in explaining to some of our lot why that was ;)

I mentioned hearing two Welsh Blues talking in Welsh at the tram station and got called all sorts of names on here. Still not sure why some blues like to have a go at other blues, whether under the influence of beer, the Internet or something else.

I am from Cambridge have supported City for over 40 years, anybody has a problem with that can go and get fucked. And I wasn't at York away

living in Sheffield since 1990 and having 3 kids who have season tiks, but come with a yorkshire accent, i cant see that it matters where you come from.
The sheff / manc train has always had loads of blues making the journey on match days, as has the leeds / manc train.
The poster may be surprised at the high number of away going blues who dont come from manc.
There's well known blues from Nottingham, chesterfield, leicester, Peterborough to name a few - all with loads of loyalty points because they've been going years.
Singling out the non manc accents is pathetic imo.......and a mistake to think that they are all jcl or less entitled to follow city than those born in the city.

Yep, there's a poster on here from Nottingham and he's a top bloke - been following City home and away far longer than I have. I think I know the guy from Leicester too - he's only missed 20 odd games home and away since 1989 plus I know someone from Peterborough who was at the match on Saturday. All are great lads and while I've often taken the piss out of the non-Manc contingent amongst United's support I would never bag on any of our own lot because a hell of a lot of out-of-towners have been following City through thick and thin. Essentially, it's not where you're from but how you actually follow your club that counts. As much as we laugh at United having fans from all over the country and beyond, there are plenty of local plastics amongst their support that have never set foot inside Old Trafford and have no intention of doing. Who's the better fan? The non-match going local who thinks pulling on a Rag shirt and going down the pub to watch them on the box yet can't find the Swamp even with the aid of a Sat Nav makes him a "top red" or the bloke from Devon who gets up at daft o'clock in the morning to board a coach to Old Trafford every other week?

The above isn't a dig at those that can't attend matches of course - it's just at a particular "type" of fan that true fans of any club find a pain in the arse. There are many different reasons why fans can't get to matches and it's not aimed at them.
