Coldest/worst weather at a City match

Wigan at Springfield park think 98
Constant cold rain with no roof
Think we left on 70 minutes to get a few brandies

This all day long. Fuckin horrific and I was a young naive boy who got in the ground before 2pm for a 3pm kick off!

The coldest I ever watched was the "Ballet on Ice". The quality of football made me forget just how cold it really was.

Been a few, but the two that stand out were Carlisle away in the mid eighties, Nicky Reid got sent off for stamping.
Also Blackburn away early 90's, think it may of been a Boxing Day night game, Michael Tarnent ( check spelling ) scored a rasping free kick, fucking freezing.

You're only out by about 8 years ;)

The Boxing Day night game was 1995 with the customary David Batty goal against City in a 2-0 defeat. Ronnie Ekelund played for us.

The Tarnat goal was a warm summer night in August 2003 where we briefly went top of the league.

Middlesbrough away, anytime of year - though a cup game a few years ago (Boyata's debut maybe?) in the snow was pretty bad.

Not City but went to the winter classic ice hockey in Helsinki a few years ago when the two Helsinki teams played outdoors at the Olympic stadium. Got down to -28 that night. Played ice cricket at -35 here one night on the frozen sea, that was nippy.

The worst ones are not necessarily the coldest temperatures but when you're unprepared for the weather. There was a game in the 70's (think it was Villa) that I set off to when it was reasonably warm so was wearing light clothing. It poured down when I was walking from Victoria station to the ground and when it stopped the temperature dropped to just above freezing. The closest I've been to genuine hypothermia.

Wrap up well today.

Just posted in the West Brom thread about this. Blue underpants reckons it was a bit parky at the Villa cup game when Micah Richards equalised in the last minute but I don't remember it being that bad that night.

Boro in the FA Cup 3rd round in Jan 2010 was fucking awful though. Blizzards all the way there and back, driving sleet and snow off the North Sea during the game and we were huddled together like penguins for any warmth we could get. There wasa game against Wigan about three seasons ago in January where it was so cold I could barely feel my feet and struggled to walk afterwards.

Swansea last New Year's Day wasn't cold but it chucked it down relentlessly when we came out of the ground and we got bloody soaked through to the skin. Took me hours to dry out.

Any others you remember?

easy this. fucking Kiev. jeez that was cold.

FA Cup defeat at Shrewsbury in 1979. Snow cleared off the pitch in to the stand. Stood behind the goal on sheet ice in trainers. Crap result and absolutely frozen... Happy days!!
Remember it well, especially the end, launching snowballs into the Shrewsbury end.
That was, one cold day.

Villa away, early nineties, was a rearranged match cos got rained off first but pissed it down with snow so was worse weather than the original day!! If memory serves me it was a shit match as well 0 - 0 Dean Saunders missed a pen
