Cole Palmer

What like Mahrez did ?

No I'm glad he thought to give Raheem his hat trick, even though he might have scored himself, that's team play.

I actually thought Mahrez, when he moved inside & was getting the ball deeper, looked absolutely brilliant & was much more a team player. He is so talented.

Prior to that, he was actually just in the way & farting about in a predictable manner.

But he showed another side to his play later imo, which would be something if we could harness it.

I think by then he'd annoyed me so much that I was probably not being very objective.

Is there anything worth reading into that he was the only (non-Foden) academy lad to start? Or is that more of a coincidence due to the position he played in just making him a needed option?

I think last Sunday was a big factor.

I think Pep wanted the team to get it's mojo back, and as he always does he wants to win this competition. burnley are often a tricky side, I like that he played the 2 first teamers that fucked up for the penalties on Sunday. I thought Walker was mostly OK on Sunday, and a bit unlucky for his, as he clearly wasn't looking where the leicester player was.

It's interesting that Garcia wasn't even in the squad, and he was certainly the worst of the bunch on Sunday.

Obviously he needed to give Laporte and Bernardo a run out, and to see Ake with Laporte, I was annoyed when I saw the team, as we usually get a bit of kicking there, so I was worried about getting more injuries, and I was very worried when that lump of wood fell on Laporte's leg, but overall I hope it's cleared the shit from the system ready for Leeds at the weekend.

Including Cole effectively alongside KdB was a good move, and giving him the full 90 minutes even better, a big boost for the lad, who didn't look out of place, Liam had played a full game and quite a good period on Sunday, so not worried there, and Foden will start at Leeds. Tommy is probably disappointed, but his time will come I'm sure.

Thought he had a touch of early '10s Ozil about him tonight. Very silky and clever in possession. Easily dealt with a few passes drilled to him in tight spaces and interchanged well with the other front players once the nerves wore off after 20 mins!

I’ve noticed that on quite a few occasions. Young players not being passed to. Foden really struggled with that when he first started- he’d run into space and just get ignored constantly
I’ve noticed this too. It’s happened for quite a few years though so it’s not just the current set of players. I remember players like Guidetti being totally ignored

I know we take a lot of criticism for our development of young players but you can tell players like Foden and Cole Palmer have been here for years and years. The cutback attempt for Sterling is probably natural at this point and what we teach the kids to do.
