Cole Palmer

Palmer is a good player but like (Sancho) would not wait or listen to Pep.
Some young players think they know the game or listen to the wrong people (agents) about the game.

A footballer's life can be short and young players want Big money quickly, but they forget playing every week at 18 can shorten your career long-term, Look at the many young players who's career is over at around 28 or not playing at the top levels because they struggle with fitness or injuries.

Unless you're Messi a Superstar at a young age then wait your time, Even Messi has not been the so superstar player over the past 5 years really, Messi has been living of past glory from around 28 and even had to move to a poor league with PSG to just keep the hype going, Please don't tell me he's just won the world cup at 35, because the other players did the hard yards for him.

just shows the level we're currently at, or more so the rest of the league.

a bench/fringe player for us, is a standout player at a club like chelsea.

the production line of our academy now is up there with one of the best in the world.

Interesting take on Palmer below taken from an analysis of last night's game on the Football365 site (https://www.football365.com/news/16...1-romero-udogie-dier-jackson-palmer-hat-trick).
Incidentally, the full piece is well worth a read as a brilliant example of insightful and entertaining football journalism. MEN take note.

There was, though, one Chelsea player who was an active and pro-active participant throughout. Cole Palmer. He may well end up one of the signings of the season. He was the one Chelsea player able to get his foot on the ball and progress it up the pitch with precision and purpose during Spurs’ fast start and he remained an oasis of calm in the middle of a game that overheated the heads of pretty much everyone else involved, up to and including the man who ended it with the match ball. It would be a fine effort from a seasoned professional; for a 21-year-old starting a Premier League game for only the eighth time it was extraordinary. If you can get through a game like this without being thrown off kilter by it all, then you’re probably going to be fine.
That was an excellent and funny article. Thanks for posting.

He made 41 appearances for us scoring 6 times and we replaced him, for not much more money, with someone a couple of weeks younger and with almost 100 more first team appearances and a dozen international caps.

Isn’t that to do with patience though from the player and the club. We basically bought someone who had more experience/ game time vs palmer who needed to play every week to develop. In those 41 appearances he barely started a game.

Who knows in a 100 games palmer could end up being the better player. We’ll find out over the next few years. Right now he’s Chelsea’s best player and probably one of the top talents in England right now.

From what I've read we wanted to keep him but sadly he wanted to move on and get more game time. It's a bit odd, because he started the Super Cup and had scored in the Community Shield so Pep was actively looking to convince him to stay - but clearly he'd already decided otherwise for some reason. Possibly down to money and the contract at Chelsea.

We must have an ex player at nearly every club in the Premier league now. (arsenal, rags spurs, villa, Chelsea, newcastle)
The only one of the top teams who doesn't have someone is the dippers.
They did have that youngster Milner with them last season though.
