Cole Palmer

Came on here to post exactly this.
It looks like it will come to haunt us as he is going to the very top and could have been our future alongside Phil, 2 local lads.
The thing is at the time it was a good deal for everybody. We got good money for a young lad with no experience all promise, and Cole got the move he needed to get the games to grow. No good saying we should have kept him. If he stayed he would have finished this season with a dozen appearances from the bench, not be at the level he is now and would be nowhere near the England squad this summer.
Doku who was his replacement played far more than 12 games from the bench.

Pep obviously didn't rate him for some reason and that's fine. Doku had a great season as did Cole. Let's see how the future pans out for them.

Every other academy player we sell we tend to insist on a buyback/sell-on clause but not with Palmer. Why not?

He's gone on record to say he wanted to go on loan (whether that's true or not I don't know).

He's now worth at least three times what we sold him for. It's disappointing that we weren't able to recognise his potential.

All opinions are welcome. It's a general football forum.

We fucked up when we sold Palmer. What's done can't be undone unfortunately, but I would like to think that someone at City might learn from it.
Who Pep? He gets far more right than wrong. He would have ultimately sanctioned his move and he gave Cole the option to stay and fight for a place. Cole decided to leave. He made the right decision for his career.

Always seemed to do well when he played was surprised we sold him but perhaps too good to be sitting on the bench most weeks
