Cole Palmer

Palmer needs to get used to playing games with a player following him around the pitch everywhere he goes like De Bruyne has over the years.

Partey and Casemiro have been his shadow in the last two weeks and he’s not really been able to find a way to shine out of it.

That’s where we’ll see if he really is a top player in the next few years.
He’s not got it between the ears to be a truly top player.

He’s supremely skilful and has wonderful balance and dribbling.

What he doesn’t have is in game nous. It’s all vibes and probably always will be.

Anonymous today, after 1 decent effort in the 3rd minute or so. Even the usual Palmer lovefest commentators said it!

Another totally anonymous display in a big game, I'll tell you something, England's "superstars" have left a lot to be desired this season, and I'm including Foden there.

Does Palmer have the potential to become a huge star in the game? Yes, I think so. But he is nowhere near the finished article yet. He needs to learn how to impose himself in games where the opposition stick to him like a wet shirt. He's had a fantastic first season for Chelsea, no point suggesting otherwise. But I don't know if it's just me, but his levels seem to be down this season. And yes; you can say the same about Foden.

He burst onto the scene and has excelled. Teams are now working out how to nullify him, especially the top teams.

Now it’s for Palmer and Maresca to work out how to modify his game to keep one step ahead of the others.

Foden is an interesting comparison. I think he also lacks it between the ears to become a truly top talent.

They both have exceptional natural talent though that will get them a long way though.

Both of them had fantastic seasons last time out. Not so this season so far. Foden has supposedly been unwell for the opening couple of months, though, so that might explain his drop off.

He’s surrounded by duds to be fair. Jackson has got to be one of the least effective strikers ever.
