Cole Palmer

I regret losing sane and jules but we made good money and we move on . In our wildest dreams we could not have forseen the injury and illness crisis
Over the past 2 years, with the exception of Arsenal, every side in the league has suffered an injury crisis at least as substantial and sometimes bigger than the one we currently face. Not only is it conceivable in dreams, I'd go as far to say it was fairly predictable. The whole footballing world is constantly talking about the bloated fixture scheduling and lack of rest which lead to more injuries, nobody with their finger on the pulse should be surprised by it.

I was one of those who didn't want Palmer to go, and that's not using hindsight, as his goal/assist input was starting to increase, and I recall feeling irritated when Haaland's late goal at Brighton was harshly disallowed by VAR after Palmer had crossed from the left.

I was also there in Athens when he scored his last goal for City.

However what's done is done and my only gripe is when people cite the proportion of penalties as some kind of negative

It was a missed penalty that cost City a place in Europe at the end of 04/05, whilst our opponent that day reached the Final the following season.

If it wasn't for Aguero's missed penalty at Spurs we might have reached the 18/19 CL Final.

City would have won at Anfield in 18/19 if Mahrez had netted his last minute penalty

Similarly, whilst we cherish the memory of Gundogan's PL.winning goal v Villa in 21/22 it would and should have been a lot more straightforward if Mahrez had scored at West Ham the previous week.

Why do people insist on telling others not to lament his sale? It's like they themselves cannot face the fact we dropped a massive changer selling him for peanuts. Its fine to acknowledge this and there is nothing wrong with people discussing what could have been when he continues to perform and show us exactly what we are missing. Or is this thread only for if/when he has a slump and we can all take joy from it? He's a former academy player and he's currently one of, if not the best attacker in the league, that alone should be enough to be worthy of discussion and praise and even though we'd love him to be doing this in a city shirt, he's still a brilliant advertisement for our academy.
If people were praising the club, you'd have a point, but they're not. They're criticising the club

Gundy wasnt brought back to play every game , there was also no reason to think he would struggle given he was one of the best players in spain last year

We should have thought more seriously about buying. back up for rodders but who wants to come here that is good enough but wont sit on the bench all the time . Kova was good enough and experienced enough to fill in . We couldnt have forseen rodders being out for a year or everyone getting injured at the same time. It is easy to say pep and the club have fucked up but none of us know what goes into managing a top club
Completely different pace of football and intensity in Spain.

One doesn't need a degree in rocket science to be able to deduce from a recurring injury list, the ages on passports, and the reported warnings from players that something was soon going to give. I've said elsewhere that this is a new challenge for the club- yet one foreseeable- and that it will now have to change its thinking about what constitutes an optimal squad if we are to become a genuinely consistent challenger in Europe.

He never performed as well as he is currently performing whilst at City. Foden's record is much better and mostly he has taken fully on board what Pep expects from his players hence more opportunities including some really big games earlier on in his development. Palmer's penalty taking is useful but the rest of his game we still have the players who could do that.

Positionally to lax, liability in defense, not proven at the highest level, taking Bobb's place, with him in our side we would probably lose that game against NF.

We seriously need to get over this palmer situation, yeh it looks like we fucked up by selling him but hey ho, we move on can’t get every transfer right, in pep I trust ctid

What's wrong with that though? We're (mostly) all blues, the club isn't perfect, errors are made, palmer being allowed to leave is proving to be a bigger error by the week, there's nothing wrong with mentioning that just like we all do when players we sold don't find greener fields elsewhere. It doesn't have to be seen as an attack on the club where we all have to go full partisan and shoot down any criticism.

Put me in a room full of rags and dippers and I'll defend my club on absolutely anything but amongst other blues it should be fine to acknowledge the errors. If we didn't, we'd be dippers.
