Quite aside from anything else, I find it hilarious how he went to Chelsea and suddenly became the best penalty taker in the world out of nowhere. He missed the only one he took for us in a friendly.
It's almost as though he had an inferiority complex at City, which he never did at Chelsea because frankly, they were shit when he arrived and he was instantly their best player.
He was starting to stake a claim here when he decided to go. He can say he never wanted to leave as many times as he wants - nobody forced him out the door and he's also admitted it was his agent who convinced him to move.
Personally, I think the club were blindsided by Chelsea's interest and by the time they realised what was happening, his head had been turned. With hindsight, they played it wrong.
They thought a loan was the wrong move and so they told him to stay or go, thinking they could either keep him or sell him to a Brighton or a West Ham with a buy back. When it became clear that Chelsea were the ones at the table, they maximised his value. But it was always a big risk letting a player of that quality go with no clause.
