Common sense or ethically wrong

They can literally change what’s categorised as a job that’s underpopulated, at any time, to ensure we allow people in.

It’s worked very well in Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Sorry mate but that will lead to chaos in the meantime, you can't just beam them in,they need to interviewed, give notice at home, move here, that takes time, the nhs can't stand still and wait

What is happening with the ones that are here,do they have to find the money to stay? I've not been following as closely as you

We are such a multicultural country with immigrants playing a big part,i just can't see how it wil work,it's not an anti tory thing for me,i just can't see it working here

It’s not ethically wrong. A nation has every right to control its borders. It is stupid though (at least as devised by Priti Patel). It will only last a couple of years in its current format. And before anyone says...we are a very different nation to Canada and Australia. I just hope the EU reciprocate by insisting all expats are capable of speaking the native language.

Well first of all this policy is totally non-discriminatory about where people are from, it’s even less so than what we currently have. so I disagree on the last part.

Secondly, no they won’t they’ll continue as they are. This is about new people from 2021.

Thirdly, there are controls now where people have to have a job waiting and qualifications, it’s how the tier works in our visas.

If you’re a Nigerian qualified nurse now say, your circumstances in coming to the UK will be hardly different, if at all next year. The government already enact the paper work and controls for every country outside the EU. If anything - this policy simplifies it. There is a visa system now and certain occupations allow you to climb the ladder.

What this will cut out is those coming with no qualifications or without a job that we need. Of course if we then need retail staff or call centre workers, we can open it up.

Other countries have successfully adopted this policy for years. It’s those that will criticise the Tories for anything that have a problem.

Also, we are overpopulated and there is no getting away from that without doing something like this.

We keep being told we are at virtually full employment so we obviously need those workers. If the government think they are being exploited , then police it, don't stop the workers that are needed.
Immigration should be on need not income.
Don't panic.
Vacant reckons there are 8M economically inactive Brits who'll pick up the slack (or wipe bums as appropriate).
Bottom line ( no pun) is that the Government will introduce so many special categories there'll be little change.
When the numbers don't reduce much the Government will just say something like we need to do better, whilst sending out a nudge nudge wink wink message to the base - we don't like Jonny foreigner but it'll take a bit longer to reduce the numbers and hope that keeps them (their base support) happy for another five years.

Nursing assistant are not trained nurses, they don't have degrees or as far as i can see need much more than education and be able to speak english, now if this policy recognises the need to have them here and are willing to let them in so they can be trained then that is fine,if they won't be then that is the problem, how much time and money is this going to cost to consider individual cases

Trained nurses from other countries are a different matter altogether, they are not who i am talking about

The point is we can change it whenever we want. If there’s a job for them, they can speak English and they are in an occupation group that we are needing, they will be able to come. It’s that simple.

Look forward to all your prices going up. I'll bet you voted for that. All your groceries, your council tax, your Nandos. And when you get there, your care home. £1,200 a week it is already in some parts. And it would have to go up even higher.
That awful moment of truth when you realise your Tory dream is over.
