Without wishing to sound cynical (but this is politics so EVERYTHING is cynical) Palin is a pretty attractive young woman, so that will appeal. She's also the mother of a child with downs syndrome. Now don't tell me that isn't going to be used to bolster her health care credentials as well as her mothering abilities. Elections are very rarely won or lost on actual policies, it's all about image and 'selling the product'. She's a decent product, wrapped in attractive packaging.
Nice work Matty........holy shit her kids has downs???.....forget it.......the repubs did their homework......genius move on their part.
On the face of it, it looks a very astute move, but...
She has VERY little time to get herself known to the American public, in whole truth. Where the intention is, she will hog the magazine covers, the Democrats will surely counter this with Michelle and Hillary doing covers of their own, possibly unifying on covers.
This could fall flat for the Republicans on the debate side and the intergrity of the appointment. She's never been mentioned before, after all. When you think about the fact, Clinton is not Obama's running mate, what would McCain've done, if she was?
I think they scrabbled around a fair bit, with the options they had and have took a HIGH risk gamble here.
Maybe, JUST maybe the American public will see past this...
* edit. In fact, I'd like to add that this is the most fascinating race I'd ever witnessed. It's like watching chess, because there's been nothing but moves and counter measures.
History making versus history making stuff on both parts.
