Complaint to BBC regarding Pete the Badge

Dear Ms Tsang

Thank you for your reply to my complaint

I found your answer to be lacking in sincerity and, quite frankly, implausible.

You say that not one person in your football department knows the term “Bertie”. I am not often as direct as this but I am calling you out as a liar or completely gullible. If it is the latter I feel you should not be working in such a prominent position and if it is the former you should be disciplined.

This post was made by a United fan towards a City supporter as a deliberate bullying tactic. You know it, I know it. Your organisation’s sickly fawning and over exposure of documentaries with a Manchester United theme tells you all you need to know. If you think this will go away with a generic response that attempts to placate and fob off at the same time you are mistaken. I feel I should share with you that fan groups of Manchester City are deeply repelled with both your feeble generic responses to our concerns as we are to the original cyber bullying of a thoroughly decent person and have no intention of letting this go away until the truth is disclosed. Please could you provide the details of the agency from whom you purchased the photograph?

I also asked in my original complaint how I complain to the Director General. You failed to deal with this in your rush to provide a generic response. Consequently I wish to both escalate my original complaint so that somebody will answer who is prepared to tell the truth and provide a detailed response and I also wish to make a new complaint against you for failing to disclose the information I requested.

Good stuff. As I said, we can escalate if we're not happy with the second response. Let's play it by the book so they've got no excuses.

I think that's the right way to go. Politeness and correctness.

A couple of points to yours and manchester blue's (which otherwise I find perfectly reasonable):
- do we know if any offence has been caused to Pete? Does he know at all about this?
- PB's (2) sentence made my head hurt to understand!
- very wise to point out clearly that this isn't anything against Ms Tsang.
- bullying is hard to prove, but they have no defence against having published a MOTD facebook post using a derogatory term. That they changed it suggests they agree.

Good work though. Nail them to the wall with something painful.

I think the response needs to be that ignorance is no excuse & the BBC should pride itself on having its finger on the pulse when communicating to the world. This incident has ridiculed & more importantly made a vulnerable man who is easily identifiable a target of football fans by calling him a derogatory term.

Importantly how will you make amends & how will you ensure this never happens again.

If ignorance really is the truth then please do not allow your hacks to comment on anything as there are cultural differences that may not be as forgiving.

You lying twats!

It is t possible to reply to the email, I tried but my message crashes out, think I would need to raise a new complaint. I believe this system is setup like this intentionally to fob of the man on the street.

Seems to me that like the FA and the cheats at PIGMOL change is welcome and long overdue

If it is of any help in your escalation, the agency that holds copyright of the image in question appears to be Press Association images. It is easily found by going to www.paimages.co.uk and using the search term "Manchester City fan". It's on the first page of images. The text associated with the image on the site is pasted below...

There is no inclusion of the word "Bertie". Indeed, if you search www.paimages.co.uk with the word "Bertie", the image of Pete is not found.

That's excellent work. Shows that the replies from the BBC are trying to cover it up.

The image date on your post suggests a new image, I'm sure in this thread its mentioned that it was an existing image.

I just typed 'man city fans at the Etihad' in google images and there half a dozen different photos of Pete. Could be one of those?
