congestion charge NO campaign

1) Read the post, the bottom deck was full, so he had to go upstairs (as is often the case), and trams would get just as full, so you would have to go near to the vermin aswell.

2) How is it pointless? If they can lie without batting an eyelid about somehting so big, why wouldn't they about robbing from the public? Give me a real answer, and not just an "it's pointless, it's different" bollocks.

I did read the post.

Have you asked why the bottom deck was full? maybe because the current transport network is crap? Was the bus late because of traffic, meaning more people were about waiting? Not enough buses servicing the route?

TIF will never fix society! It will never get rid of the scum that treat buses like shit, that have no respect for anyone.

Let me guess? you're a fuel protesters? haha!

Anyone else think that Goater666 is a on the Manchester Council?

Nah mate, nothing to do with the council.

Just somebody who currently drives to work, wants better public transport, so i can sell my car and stop paying rediculous fuel prices, car tax and insurance.

We either take this once in a lifetime opportunity of taking decision making and spending away from the London based Government or it stays as it has been, with no change insight.

But they WONT bring in better public transport, they will add a few new bus routes, set a date for the trams and then scrap the idea through financial difficulty.

We've all seen it all before, so why do it again?

I think we can all say that we want a better, safe, affordable public transport system, but at the end of the day the motorist already pays £140 billion a year in taxes and only £4 billion is put back into the road network.
What actually should happen is that public transport is improved significantly and if there's no change in the number of vehicles entering the city centre, then bring in a congestion charge.
Not have a vote first so that funding can be withdrawn after a congestion charge has been implimented

You seem to be confusing who will be spending the money? Councils around Greater Manchester will be the ones with cash in the bank, not the government.

The local council have a pretty good record of spending cash getting things done. Our own stadium was built with government money wasnt it? and even the *cough* big bang *cough* :D.

Im pretty sure they'll do exactly what they have planned, its in their own best interests to get it right.

I can't wait for the charge to come in.....far too many cars on the road. Car driving should be a luxury and the charge will make it that way again.

Go away.

Are the pavements in the city centre too busy for you? How about a toll at the beginning of every street and road? That help you?

GET A GRIP.

I've asked it before, and I'll ask it again, why am I being asked to pay for a privately owned business to improve it's service? You can call it "public transport" all you like, but it was privatised many years ago. They make proficts from the business, so they should pay for it to be improved.

It's all those damn Jews driving the cars as well I tells ya.

Excuse me? I'd like you to explain that comment please.

One year ago I would have been a NO on the cgarge. Since then I have taken a position in Manchester city centre as a highlty paid executive and catch the metrolink everyday. I have friends who live near me who 'refuse' to get the metrolink because they are either too lazy to walk at either end or feel it is beneath them.

So the Metrolink is within 15 minutes walk for 95% of the population of Greater Manchester?
I'd sympathise with your opinion then.

The Metrolink is another massive balls up that's costing an absolute fortune.

The nearest Metrolink station to me is probably Piccadilly, and I live a good 5 miles out of the centre of Manchester!!

It is owned by GMPTE, hardly a wealthy company with the sort of cash readily available to invest in a new huge transport system.

I dont think they could EVER make anything close to £3billion. Which is required to bring the infrastructure to the 21st century.

Out of interest how much profit does the GMPTE turn over each year?

Thanks for the clarification; Jews do not use cars on the Sabbath.

So if the private companies are incapable of providing a decent service without shed loads of public funding why exactly were they privatised in the first place?

Ask the central government? who was it? was it the Conservatives that denationalised the transport authority?

The same goverment that half of you will vote back in next year?

Excuse me? massive balls up? 20 million passengers a year?

It's a success where it is, but at what financial cost and to the benefit of what percentage of Greater Manchester?
Why spend millions upon millions upon millions putting trams on roads, stations, platforms and all the disruption that went with it, when greener buses would have been a far better and much more cost effective option?
Also what happens if a tram breaks down? The line grinds to a halt because trams can't go round each other.
