congestion charge NO campaign

HENCE- the congestion charge will benefit you becasue your publice transport will be improved. It's dinasours like yourself that are not allowing this country to move forward.

If you believe that then you really are a moron.

Even if (and it's a big IF) public transport is improved, it won't be improved for all. There will still be some people who struggle to use it to get to their destination, to compound their misery by charging them a congestion fee for a service that they can't use is just rubbing salt in.

Hey, if the government want to spend money on improving public transport then I'm all for that, perhaps they could use the extra money that will come from road tax on all those extra cars, and the tax from the extra petrol sales too? As a car driver who never uses public transport why exactly should I be paying up to £1000 a year towards it's upkeep and improvement when someone who uses it on a daily basis isn't paying a penny extra?

I live in Hampshire and work in London. the congestion charge here has screwed everyone. The shopkeepers dont get customers and commuters have large bills to pay. Worst of all, the traffic is no better. Public transport does not cover everyones needs and therefore the charge is just another tax

That's an opinion not fact just like all the other anti-congestion arguments.

It's a FACT that I will have to pay hundreds if nor a thousand pounds a year towards a system I'll never use whereas someone who uses it daily will have to pay NOTHING extra towards it. I'd say that's an anti-congestion argument based on FACTS. Explain the fairness in that?

You won't pay extra if you leave your car at home, FACT! The idea is to get people to use public transport or have you missed the point!

But how will that help? It would still mean for many, that the stations/bus stops plus the length of time it takes doesn't make it viable. And would you want YOUR wife/sister/daughter (or sons come to it) traipsing throught the streets at 5am, or 5pm come to that, with the scum they are likely to encounter? No, I am sure you wouldn't.
And, what of the councillors pushing for this? Well, not suprisingly they will be exempt from the charge! Do as I say, not as I do.....Balls to that. I already pay to use the roads. Its called Road Tax.
I am far from being the 'dinosaur' you call me, and accept that changes are needed to ease traffic problems, (Get rid of the bus lanes that cause far more than they solve, and silly one way systems, [Ironically many were put in place when the trams were put in!] for a start) but congestion charge is just another money making scheme like speed cameras. How is it fair to charge someone on say, a nurses wages, the same as a surgeon working in the same hospital, just to get to work? The surgeon, like you 'executives', can afford it with ease, (and will probably reclaim it through expenses anyway), but its the nurses of the city, and equivalent who will suffer most.
Take off your blinkers and realise, that it is nothing more than an unfair added taxation, on those that can least afford it, dressed up to look 'green' and 'environmental'.
