Whenever Conn or Shindler get mentioned there's always at least one cretin who comes up with the "he's Jewish isn't he so he must hate Arabs/Muslims" line. There's a few in this thread alone.

It's a level of argument that the word facile isn't even remotely adequate for. And with that, I'm off to Wembley.

Already in London . I think FC Utd fan living in Yorkshire is enough to go at.

My sense is that very few people on here are interested in race (although a very few seem to be so don't bother quoting them).

I will do some more research and I hope to find that David has championed some worthy but unpopular causes in recent years - for the good of the game as well as his bank balance. His Wikipedia page smacks of a self promoting CV.

I've just read his Wikipage and can't see anything wrong with it.. the fact he's won awards (and a signficant bunch of them) should be up on there, just as City's titles & cups should be listed on any summation of our club.

People are entitled to their opinions, and I find Conn's writing worth reading - and it doesn't upset me.

I've never seen him as anti-City, although I don't empathise with his diminishing sense of satisfaction I can respect his perspective (not so much with Colin Schindler but that's another story) and I can't quite understand the level of vitriol on this thread.

Conn is a journalist. I think he accomplishes his work with great credit. What's on his Wikipedia page would seem to justify this conclusion, although I fully recognise for others on here this doesn't seem to be a widely held opinion.

Are you an expert in journalism awards mate? If the Press Gazette thingies are prestigious then credit to David Conn?

I agree David's writing is very good, however, how can you claim to be the hero of the working class football fan when you have never been poor. I wouldn't recognise David although I enjoyed reading Richer than God. Somehow I don't think he's the guy I walked through the Alexandra Park Estate with when I couldn't afford the bus fare from Stretford to Maine Road!!!

In fairness, my reference to David's Wikipedia page is a bit of a red herring!

I was bitterly disappointed today that we won the Capital One Cup. The only reason we won it was entirely due to £1 billion we've had lavished on players. The largesse of the Abu Dhabi royal family is so far removed from anything that is happening in Manchester, it's quite disgusting. Also "Capital One Cup"? I hanker for the days when there was no sponsorship and it used to be called the League Cup. Seeing Etihad emblazoned on a shirt instead of a just purely Sky Blue makes me very sad. As for playing the final in that London instead of Manchester, well it's absolutely tarnished today's victory.

Oh for the return to the good old days of Swales. Even the children sat in our block today (sat! sat I tells you, instead of standing on open terraces!) were not at all happy that our victory came at such a cost.

And what about the English players????

Where for art thou Robert Taylor?

Without thee, hollow is our victory

David? Fuck off.

absolutely!

- plus I read a research paper on the subject last week and a study review of 62 sports journalists and their meritocratic peer reviewed recognition processes & awards across five markets, index weighted using a logarithmic scale & hermetically sealed in a plastic bag.
