conn having a dig again

I do wonder who Conn and Shindler would choose to support if they were growing up today?

Was it the fact that we were crap that 'made' them Blues in the first place?

No, it was likely the fact that for both of them City were one of the countries biggest clubs with some proper decent footy being played. That footy was also played in one of the biggest stadiums in the world not only in England.

The pitch was the biggest outside of Wembley, the attendance records were there already as were our massive floodlights.

City were a glamour club in many ways and they pulled in people because of that not because they were Manchester's version of Accrington Stanley.

The real problem with Conn and Shindler's falling out of love with modern football is that its somewhat disingenuous.

And if they were kids today they would certainly follow City for the same reasons they did back then the only difference is the world in which football exists is one where most people expect more for their money.

I am pretty certain that they enjoy trips to the theatre with the modern facilities and prices. I think its pretty certain that they travel to the Trafford Centre or similar out of town shopping centres in their nice modern cars and fill up the tank at the outrageous prices that fuel is now sold.

But its football that they have fell out of love with?

Perhaps they need to take their football ludditeism where it will be appreciated more, Glasgow.

"Yes, & the vast millions spent signing and paying up to £200,000 a week to the players you watched on Sunday."

That would be those world class players who played in a brilliant match on a brilliant day which I shared with my family and friends. A day which has had me on a high ever since, not for the first or last time.

@standingalone replied to him again after that saying something along the lines of 'yes those same players who gave me and my son a great day out, in fact I think we should give yaya a pay rise'

Class reply.

I said something similar the other day on this subject. That nice big house that he lives in would have cost him about £500 50 years ago, has he had a moan about that yet?

Time has moved on and so has football. You could tell from reading his book that he had just fell out of love with football, he was saying that he wasn't even enjoying the match day experience 20 years ago compared to when he was a kid.

Now he's got a bigger audience to give his opinion to, and if anything he is cashing in on the fact that we are now one of the best because more people around the country are reading his opinions because its about City's wealth. His views on City are probably shared by a lot of United and Arsenal fans, which is where he earns his money.

You've changed your tune somewhat
Earlier in the thread you were critisicing those posters who were having a pop at Conn over his attitude towards City and the Final in particular

No I wasn't. I said he's entitled to his opinion, even though I don't share it. The reply above is an indication that I don't share his opinion.

I have to say I had a great time in 69, 70, 76, 99, 2011 and yesterday
And the last three were great to share with my friends and family

Conn can go and pucker up in the wilds of Yorkshire and keep his outdated views to himself

Of course people like David Conn and Colin Shindler have every right to their opinion and every right to express it freely if someone allows them a platform to do do. I would even respect their opinions if I actually believed that they were 'their opinions' because I don't for one minute think they are.
Conn's reasoning for being disillusioned with modern football make no sense unless you are disillusioned with every aspect of modern life. I'm sure David Conn isn't disillusioned with the Sat Nav on his BMW, or the Sky + on his TV or his fancy lap top computer or 100's of other modern day comforts that we now take for granted. If David Conn really believes that the glory days of football were when players got paid peanuts and Louis Edwards went home from a match with two carrier bags of cash then he's sadly mistaken. The thing is, he doesn't believe that, he (like every other journalist) has made a considered decision that this is the angle that will generate the most reaction to his articles. Him being a 'City fan' adds a bit more spice to his condemnation of the way the club now operates.
The team with the best players won the Capital One Cup on Sunday. It wasn't luck, it wasn't two moments of individual brilliance and it wasn't money. It was the team that played the best and scored the most goals that won a very entertaining football match and, if Conn and/or Shindler are, or ever were City fans, they would recognise that that's how football should be and would have loved every minute of it.

Who gives a shit what Conn thinks - he's entitled to his own opinion, its just a shame he has a platform to continue spouting his crap.

Sunday was a an excellent day - It was my 5 year old lads first Wembley visit - just seeing his excitement all day from the Tube Journey to being in the Indian Restaurant pre match, throughout the game and the journey home until he fell asleep - the happy look on his face - absolutely made my day

People can think and say what they want - my sons experience was priceless for me - and hopefully he will enjoy many more

If someone bought me a Lamberghini I wouldnt enjoy driving it any less because I hadn't paid for it myself.

What's great about all these Wembley trips is that whilst the novelty starts to wear off, and let's be honest, the first successes in anything are the sweetest, you make up for it by learning from your mistakes in the way you structure your day. When I think of those first couple of times, trekking about for miles trying to meet people in some shit ram-packed pub, sitting outdoors with cans, we were clueless. Now we have a top class routine, no faffing about.

It's not a novelty going to Wembley but there's still a thrill to it that I hope never goes away. On my journey in, i know exactly where I will first see the arch and when I did on Sunday, my growing excitement went up a notch. When Nasri smote the ball into the net I exploded out of my seat with a roar and when Jesus sealed it, I was dancing in aisle (well, I did have an aisle seat). The salary those guys were getting was not something that entered my head.

I almost pity Conn: he seems to be a sad, sorry, little man. It's football, it's a form of entertainment, enjoy it for what it is.
