Fact is the Russians have millions of people of fighting age, not trained fighters.

I believe they don't have the capability to face NATO or fully annex Ukraine, and they have set their people back decades by over estimating their power. Same old russians.

Finland are ready to fight and have a proud subscripted army and reserves. They know they could be next.I don't understand why it's up to our tiny little island to goto war with the worlds biggest country?!?
Just fuck off! I don't see Finland, Iceland, New Zealand, or many other smaller countries getting themselves involved.
We think we're a big fish but the reality is we ate taxing ourselves to death in a keep up with the jonesies.
We are no longer the British Empire we once were and need to start acting like the little island that we actually are.

I served 1984- 1990, utterly shit pay, great food. In Germany non commissioned personnel lived at the bottom of the system. When Munster Berghoff took over the married accommodation, apart from one block, they deemed all other unfit for human habitation.
They can't retain personnel, simple things like taking leave are difficult and there is still zero help when you leave.

Exactly and they man for man gave the USSR a good kicking. Russia is corrupt as is its army. Nato would batter them. I firmly believe there will be not be a WW3

not sure why OUR government is taking a kicking over this? We didn't invade anyone, to the best of my knowledge we don't intend attacking Russia, all this is about an ability to respond if we are attacked, or a NATO ally is attacked.
Other posters have hit the nail on the head, conscription won't happen for a number of reasons, the main one being that WW3 will be fought with technology, cyber attacks and, ultimately if we're true to form, fucking big bombs. All the conscripts in the world won't make much difference in any of those scenarios.
The blustering by the army chap is a political move, and a good one, to highlight the decimation of our professional fighting force, which whilst understandable to some degree as its a low priority high expense "commodity" in peace time, it also smacks of a complete inability to learn the lessons of history, so in that respect this government, and previous ones, and probably future ones unless it all does kick off, do deserve some criticism.
Those whimpering about us being a small island who shouldn't get involved are missing the point, we are a member of NATO and that has obligations as well as benefits, so like it or not if Finland, Sweden, Poland etc are attacked, we ARE involved, or alternatively we bring shithousery to a new level by reneging on our obligations.

They would only go if they could work from home…I think you’re right there would be huge protests, imagine all thise domed up Saturday night wannabes having to really man up, they’d be shitting themselves. I’m sure loads would try the mental health avenues, sadly if we are going to war with Russia then it’s all over anyway.
