My Finnish workmate told me this tale from his Grandfather, who was in both winter wars:
The Finns used to work in small groups and ambush the Russians. The Russins in Finland weren't the "elite" and the couldn't ski, so they went in single file through the snow. The Finns would lie in wait and shoot the third man in the line. Then ski off and set up a new ambush. Shoot the third man etc etc. It destroyed the Russia morale.
