At what point does it become your problem?

When Russia is invading Poland, Germany, the UK, your village, your street, your house.

If it comes to my doorstep then it’s likely game over because the wankers in charge have failed us.
I’ll deal with that if the time comes.
I certainly won’t be offering my only child up as a sacrifice so the cunts who started the war can stay safe in whatever underground bunker they are hiding in.

Of course not and nor would anyone who isn’t mental. Else we’d be happy sending folk off to fight in Ukraine today.

The point comes when those “far away” contained fights become our problem. I may decide for myself that point is if they attack France, my kids may decide if they attack UK and you may decide if they attack Manchester. There is nothing wrong with any of that, it’s personal choice, at some point you may have to fight however unpalatable that is.

As you rightly say this isn’t 1945 and we’re unlikely to be fighting them on the beaches.

A sustained war mandating conscription is never going to happen. Russia may be reckless but they aren't stupid, they cannot win a war against Europe alone let alone the US. China is not going to get involved in such a conflict because China is an economic powerhouse and its economic relationship with the US and Europe is far more important than the same with Russia.

Let's face it, Ukraine is currently being used as a western munitions playground under the effective command of NATO. If Russia had a problem with that and it was a red line then they'd of launched a response already but they haven't because they can't. They can't however retreat either and so what we have is stalemate.

Western posturing and strength however has never been greater. The greatest illusion is the show of strength by Putin at a time when Russia has never been weaker and more isolated.

The only exception to this is the fact that Russia is nuclear armed and this is where nuclear weapons become our most critical national asset. I think there is an extremely low likelihood of physical war with Russia but there is certainly a much higher likelihood of nuclear war.
