Corners

The film said " white men can't jump " well our whole frickin team can't jump.

Look at chelsea who are a huge danger at corner kicks, defended scoring often, then look at ours who are useless.

I thought, but then I could be wrong, that they were employed to play football not to be a high jumper? If they want (or rather you want) a high jumper go watch the Athletics, they have a stadium next to the Etihad!!

How stupid of me to think that jumping could be useful at set pieces both going forward and in defence.. Do you have directions to this Athletics Stadium you do mention

Aguero was good at that challenge on the OS called corners( although was nothing like taking a corner other than it being from the corner).

Yep, straight across from City Square.

You do realise that I was being daft don't you? I understood what you were saying but I was having a daft half hour (as my old Gran used to call them) and pretended to take your post literally. Maybe I should have put a smiley face. Sorry I didn't mean to offend you. :-)

Two points stand out for me (1) the best dead ball exponent at our club is Yaya, let him take the corners

That's got to be the next thing to try. He's certainly the best at free kicks so logic would dictate he should be decent at corners. And at the same time, he is incapable of heading the ball anyway. In fact I can't remember the ball ever hitting his head. So we're missing nothing with him not in the box.

Opposing teams probably prefer a corner for us to a goal kick these days, it gives them the chance for a quick break.

I've seen 227 since we scored mentioned in all comps, but there was also 10/11 in that friendly in Abu before our cup exit as well.

It's getting so bad now that there's a collective groan where I sit when we get a corner. People are almost willing it to go out for a throw. Not sure how it's got to this, but it feels like both fans and players feel that corners are almost futile. There's virtually no expectation or belief any more that we can score from one.

Still don't understand why our deliveries are so bad. Surely being able to clear the first man and put the ball into a dangerous area from a set piece is a fairly rudimentary skill for a professional footballer. Unfathomable why it's seemingly beyond such a talented group of players.
Its amazing, only a couple of seasons ago we were allegedly the best, though I was never convinced, we often scored after a corner, but rarely direct from one. I don't see how its so difficult, you can teach 10 year olds how to take a dangerous corner, and how to attack one (not to mention defending them), as you say a rudimentary skill for any footballer, not just pro's.

We just do the same thing every time, and that is the frustration, even if we varied it a bit, we'd be better.

M11 3FF and their cafe has great food, I was in there yesterday, try the baked potatoes, they've got great fillings. But you do need to be tall to read the filling list or you get a crick in your neck. Maybe a high jump specialist is needed for it? :-)

Outswinger - only a striker attacking the ball will score

Inswinger - a goal can come from a striker attacking the ball, a defender/keeper putting it into his own net

No brainer - sack the outswinging corner

I think he has organised for a platoon of ball boys to stand on the bye/goal line to make sure the ball never goes out for a corner. And all shots on goal are to be along the ground and in the middle so the keeper cannot tip them over the bar or round the post.

Time and time again I see lesser sides take decent corners and cause havoc. We are abysmal at putting it into the danger area.

New tactic tonight.---------------get 6 players in Sky blue shirt to stand on or around the penalty spot--------just as Kolorov strikes the ball----------------

6 players run to different parts of the box-----------------------it confused Krul, and their defence-------------------but we did not score.---------------------
However , the t*t of a ref booked Dzeko as the ball hit the hand-----------------definitely un-intentional.-------------- Foy loves the colour yellow.

It was intentional.

when kolarov in on the pitch he HAS to be the one who takes them his crosses are very dangerous
