Corners

Yesterday we played arsenal, has no one at our club been watching them at all this season? They zonal defend every corner which means ALL their players were in or around the 6 yard box.
What we needed to do rather than lumping it in the midst of 11 of their men was play it to the edge of the box where there were 2 or 3 of our players unmarked, who could at least have had a pop.

THIS!

IMO - If Mangala and Dzeko are playing then knock it straight into the box. If they're not, then take them short every time and get Silva dribbling into area, we might at least try and win a pen.

need to be whipped in with pace in swinging corners, we just loop them in and give the defenders far too much time to see it and deal with it.

For me an out swinging corner is better than an in swinger as the man in the box can meet it better, either will work though as long as the delivery is good enough. I'm not being funny but I play Sunday league football and I can put a ball in between the 6 yard box and the Peno spot nearly every time. its not difficult and is very frustrating to watch

Its not good to see it when the corners into the box dont beat the first man or goes to the extreme and miss everyone. I think with everything that we do with the ball and our attacking play is great to see. Just defending and attacking set plays we are a bit suspect. It is costing us big time. The Arsenal second goal was dreadful non marking from Fernando. Makes you think if we are doing drills on this. Also the defence since Mancini has gone we have been a fucking mess still. I would love to see us getting a better balance to defence. Think its time to pair Mangala with Kompany in longterm there our pairing for the future.

There are a couple of football pitches not far from me. I'll stop for 5-10 min when I am out with the dogs to watch. I have genuinely watched 13-14 year old lads deliver the ball with more pace, whip and accuracy than what we have been seeing of late.

If we see the same shite out swinging deliveries next weekend then we can be certain there is nothing going to be done about it.

We could do a lot worse than getting Kolarov to twat the ball as hard as possible into the box a waist height. Maybe get a lucky deflection?

One thing is for sure, my suggestion has as much technical input as what must be being discussed on the training pitch. How we can be so in effective is just beyond reason, i think from 14 corners yesterday we got a head on one of them.

Beyond wank.

I agree, but add:

I think from now on any fucker taking the corner should just boot it too see what happens.

There's a reason we struggle hugely at corners, and it's because of how we set up. We play for a near post flick, which most teams have now sussed, meaning our corners have to be so precise in order for us to score. We should just go back to a standard delivery rather than trying to overcomplicate them so much.

Thing is why is this not being sorted out?. We have one of the best infrastructures in world football with analysts, statisticians and what have you yet we keep making the same fundamental mistakes game in game out.
