Corners

we should be putting inswinging corners at pace to the near post to flick on , against teams like stoke and chelsea , kolarov as suggested is ideal for this on the right and jimmy on the left. Chelsea were not bothered at all about conceding corners , we just were not a threat today

This is spot on. Tim Howard who knows a thing or two about corners consistently says inswingers are far more difficult to defend against. At the very least when you have 15 fruitless ones without a sniff of a chance, at least try a change-up. Remind me exactly how Dzeko scored that equalizer against QPR?

I agree entirely, Jimmy and Kolarov are perfect for corners, keep Yaya in the box just to be a nuisance, the likes of Silva/Nasri should be at the edge of the 18 yard box waiting for any headers out so they can chip them back in from there.

Having one man back when you are down to ten was not too clever. I thought Kompany would have asked Sagna to stay back with him.

Our corners have been shit for years now. same problem over and over of not beating the first man. I'm convinced it's a tactical thing to hit the near post for Kompany to try and win the near post flick on because it happens every single time and i can't possibly believe players the quality of Silva nasri etc can't put in a decent corner.

What's more worrying is that our corners seem to be our biggest weakness at the back. I think we've conceded more goals from our corners than we've scored. Too slow in getting back and the players hanging around the edge to pick up the pieces are very poorly positioned, especially when the ball constantly goes to the front post. Also, i've noticed we left Fernandinho as the last man again today. Which is fine normally, he does it a lot but surely you change the last man when they've picked up a booking? it was the reason why he couldn't challenge Diouf against Stoke .

Shit corners, and to that you can add throw ins and free kicks. Has been that way for ages.
Kolarov,Jimmy and short corners are the answer.
Work on it in training and sort it Uncle P.
Roberto never did.

We should use corners just to keep possesion. Take them short and keep our shape.

Starting to think that's our best tactic. Not particularly productive, but beats giving the opponents a counter attack!

Really can't understand why corners aren't worked on more intensely though. In a stalemate, a decent set piece can be the difference. Kolarov on the right and Milner from the left should be trialled.

PL 2013/14 stats:
Man City scored 13 goals from corners, more than any other side.

Perhaps we get more corners than most.
Imagine how many we'd have scored from consistant decent deliveries.
However if you're happy to just concentrate on the stat and ignore all the other the piss poor, ineffective corners then so be it.

x2

I'd have thought any professional footballer should be able to take a corner competently? after all you are kicking a stationary ball a set distance and yesterday there was no wind to contend with!!!
no excuse for such poor delivery time and time again?

I seriously think I could have done better and I'm 51 years of age!!

I've already stated we need to improve our corners only a couple of posts up, I think Kollarov should take more

But the stat is hardly irrelevant

Played really well today but our Corners are dreadful. 14 today and a the end result was a breakaway goal for Chelsea, same happened against Stoke.

Sort it out Pelle, tell Magic Dave specifically to stay away from them!

Yep, they need whipping in with pace right onto the front of the 6 yard box, Silva never does that, he just pops it over with a bit of spin, easiest cross to deal with. How about some bugger else taking them, an not Nasri, he does the same, and Milner and, in fact every bugger. Who could do it with some results...?

Chelsea put us in trouble with their first two corners...both whipped into the box by the penalty spot or what Fat Sam would call "the zone of maximum opportunity." It's a mystery that we seem to have struggled so far with set pieces this season. In fact, apart from Navas and Kolarov we don't seem that good at crosses full stop.
