Coronation of King Charles 3rd

I’m not outraged at all, what would they achieve? I’m apathetic, the point I was making a it shouldn’t be fees that get you the gig or that rules out most talented kids who don’t have the money, let the best sing, not the best who can also afford it. Surely that’s fairer?

That’s not how the world works though. You can’t choose where you were born.

No one ever looks at the opposite and the real life experiences that people from non privileged backgrounds have over those who come from well off/connected families.

Talent is talent and prodigies from both sides don’t get given that chance to shine but it’s only one side that gets slated.

Erling Haaland, came from a privileged background, probably had his own pitch in his garden, got an easy trial at his local club Byrne where his Dad played, moved to Molde where the manager was his Dad’s former team mate, got in the national youth teams who his Dad would have contacts with, yet no one is claiming privilege with him? It’s just the posh little kids who get the stick.

This is as bad as some of the political threads.
You Great British are a strange bunch.
I sometimes wonder what the United in United Kingdom stands for. You really find it difficult to get along with each other at times.
I didn't watch any of it, for me all the privilege and class system should be got rid off. I see the coronation and royal weddings as a massive PR exercise to make people proud of these historic institutions like royalty and entitlement. It's like a west end show on a massive scale aimed at making you patriotic (and it works).

It surprises me that City fans in the main seem to buy into it really.
City fans in the main were always made up of (like me) working class people, I'm surprised that a family that owns a whopping 20 properties in the UK, including Castles, sprawling private estates, palatial manors, regal mansions and cosy cottages plus thousands of acres of the best of British countryside (while Brits struggle to pay their gas bill in their semi) are so revered just for being born into privilege.
As someone mentioned it would have been a generous gesture if the new King had decreed that he would pay for the whole thing, but he didn't.

My take on this is that everyone should be born equal, not with inherited titles, titles that are designed to make us feel subservient. But it seems I'm in a minority as the majority of my fellow Brits are in favour of it all!!

I'm truly glad that you all enjoyed the day and service.

I take heart that a few famous people I admire have refused knighthoods and honours. And the fact that although it's billed as the biggest show in town, not all British people wanted to buy a ticket.

I’m not sure City fans in the main have bought into it, I just don’t think most City fans and Mancunians in the main have an inferiority complex and a chip on their shoulder (I’m not saying you have, I’m thinking more about the contrast in the Liverpool fans’ reaction to GSTK compared to ours).

The King doesn’t make me feel subservient, and I know I’m not. I’m never going to meet him and my life would be no different whether the Royal Family existed or not.

Everyone is born equally. Just because someone has inherited titles and loads of land and property, doesn’t make them of a higher standing than anyone else. Just like mega rich entertainers like Adele or Haaland aren’t. I’d rather have my life than the King’s because my life is better than his. The Royal Family’s life seems like it would be fucking awful, a right royal pain in the arse. They’re like zoo animals for tourists to gawp at. I couldn’t think of anything worse. But they’re living history and a really good tourist attraction so if they want to be the zoo animals they are then more fool them but, fuck it, let’s keep them because I’m sure yesterday brought in many times more in tourism money than it cost to put the show on.

Yeah, people are moaning about the coronation being paid for by the people, but the UK tax revenue was £873b last year and the coronation cost just £100m so just 0.012% of last year’s tax revenue on something that most people enjoyed or at least were okay with or watched as a bit of novelty or for some history. And nobody’s telling me we didn’t bring in well over £100m in tourism money around the event!

There’s no such thing as God and I don’t really care either way about the King. I never think about the Royal Family unless they pop up in a thread on this forum. I had a bit of the Coronation on yesterday but was flicking between that and the rugby and getting ready to go to the game and missed most of it apart from the crowning. Yet I, and pretty much everyone around me (including two blokes to my right who missed the whole thing because they were at the pub and pissed up), sang GSTK at the game yesterday. But that’s just because we aren’t twats who are bitter because of an inferiority complex and a chip on our shoulder… and then we’ll probably not think about the King again unless we go to London for a bit of sightseeing in about five years’ time. Whereas the bitters will still be moaning about them from week-to-week despite their lives not being affected by them in any way because their complexes won’t allow them not to.

One day in the not to distant future every inch of our culture will be gone.

No monarchy, no Christian faith, no recognition of our history.

We’ll become as dull as dishwater. Bring on the day!

Like I said, I have no problem with people celebrating things Royal like yesterday. It's just my opinions on Royalty and entitlement are different than yours. I simply don't believe in these things. Just like you don't believe in God.

It's just a name.
We are less united than ever. The country is falling apart at the seams.

BBC News played the Champions League tune or Zadok The Priest. Had to boo Georg Friedrich Händel's piece. My choice.
If I'd have watched it, I, too, would have booed it. Nothing to do with the coronation, it was also sung at the late Queen's coronation in 1953, and is quite stirring.
Fuck UEFA.
