Dr Fauci saying reinfection is happening with the new variant , even with antibodies so if you have had covid earlier in the year get the vaccine if you are offered it

This was shown very clearly in the J&J vaccine trial.

As I understand it, they tested for previous infection (blood antibody test) prior to recruiting onto the trial, and saw no difference on the placebo arm between previously infected and not previously infected.

However, there was no data on severe infections - it's likely reinfections were less severe.

The vaccine still had good, albeit somewhat reduced efficacy against infection with the new variant.

Wales vaccination data:

439, 640 First doses given - 23, 334 yesterday - up from 12, 843 day before

1066 second doses given - 225 yesterday - up from 25 day before

Certainly not what i wanted tony to say , i cant do covid a second time when my lungs are still not recovered from the first time

Jesus Christ this thread has taken a dramatically bad turn for the worse.

So firstly - this mutation that could evade the vaccine etc. This might make the vaccine slightly less efficient but still probably around %60, so more people may show signs of illness but severe illness will still be eradicated.

This is of course - if proven to be true, people need to have some semblance of keeping a level head. How many times has bad news spread like wild fire and then the next day we are back to positive news and the supposed bad news is forgotten.
we can also change the vaccines around very easily to an even more efficient boost.

Let’s not forget all the amazing medical advancements that have happened, so many vaccines haven’t even been approved yet and I know they will be changed slightly to include the new mutation.

As someone pointed out earlier we have so many strains floating around, so it’s hardly like everyone will get the same strain but the media are making it seem that will be the case.

On a different tangent Paul Hunter, a professor of medicine at the university of East Anglia, has said his team is releasing a paper later this week which shows the Pfizer vaccine has an efficacy of 91% 21 days after the first dose.

Wow today has turned intro a downer before noon.

Long term I am still pretty sure that the virus will mutate to more infective and less deadly as this is the most stable way to coexist with humans. Yes, it will try out many other options first as it reacts to the barrier the vaccines create for it, but nature settles into an eco system not chaos over the medium term.

That medium term - though - is not 12 months. It could be a decade. Or more. Especially as we missed our chance to eradicate this before most of us even knew it existed.

That is why stopping a global pandemic before it happens is critical. Once it goes global you can only seal yourself off and try to eradicate it locally and stay that way long term.

Probably very little we can do about it now except fight each one as it arrives and do what we are doing - catch it early and seal off Eyam style - everywhere it appears. It may come to that.

Long term we have to try to coax the virus into a version we can live with so it has no need to mutate away from it as we are not basically trying to kill off the old ones as they emerge.

This is increasingly starting to look like the Walking Dead - a TV virus that was great for a year and then got increasingly stale and annoying and in the end people just wanted it to go away please.

Hope this virus does not run as long as the fictional one or we will all be turned into slobbering herds of zombies out of sheer frustration.
Variants have always been on the cards , the media love sensationalising everything, as I’ve said before vaccinations and science are the route out with enormous steps being made daily , no point in getting down about every snippet of news all it will do is send you mad . Things are getting better.

The media are not sensationalising it , one of the top guys in the world as in trials have found reinfections with these new variants , the is nothing to be gained by waiving away anything you cant happy clap about , facing the truth is the best way

My brother has had his vaccination postponed again because he still has the virus and is even 5 weeks on from it still struggling to talk without coughing but happily over most other symptoms.

Apparently if you have tested positive you have to wait several weeks before they will let you have it.

That is now twice in 5 days he has been given a date for the jab and both have bee n cancelled with two different reasons given for doing so.

The first was so as not to have the Pfizer jab as was being used that day given his allergy to penicillin.

Now that he has had covid too recently.

Just got back from taking my gran for her vaccine. Quite emotional seeing all the elderly look so happy after having something as simple as a vaccine. A few younger disabled kids/adults there today too getting theirs too. All the staff and nurses there were fantastic and very positive
Great stuff mate.
