Regional Scoreboard:

South

East down 331 to 1800

London down 595 to 2673 - still the highest just.

South East down 230 to 2385

Midlands

East Midlands UP 8 to 1728

West Midlands down 179 to 2274

North

North East down 166 to 831

Yorkshire UP 559 to 1716 - may just be a blip but surprise to see a big rise here today. Maybe the new variant has finally discovered where it is as it has had the lowest numbers up to now of that. Sadly inevitable

And North West down 326 to 2540 - just 133 behind London.

North West is not seeing any major falls but a slow stall almost a plateau. Not surprising that the R number here has an upper limit of 1 unlike almost everywhere else which is below.

Greater Manchester

Down 105 to 937 but that fall is slightly less than a third of the NW fall and so the percentage of the NW rises again by 0.5% to 36.9%

Most places down a bit. Manchester below 200 at 194. And fewer cases than Liverpool for first time in a while.

Wigan big drop to be below 100. Bolton and Stockport down a bit but both just fail to be sub 100 - Bolton at 100 exactly and Stockport at 102. Stockport lost more ground to Trafford even though Trafford went up by more cases than Stockport fell.

Big surprise was Oldham that had its worst score in a while and ended a long run of sub 100 day as second worst behind Manchester at 108 and has the worst Pop Score of the day too.

6 boroughs sub 100 but nobody below 61 with Bury the lowest numbers again today.

A fairly average day here today. No big issues. And day to day numbers are always going to be up and down. Could all be different tomorrow.

There is a part of the vaccination schedule that seems to be overlooked but is critical in reducing the number of deaths and that is those with serious existing conditions. Anyone aged 18 and over with any condition that puts them at risk will be offered the vaccine after the next group, 65-70, is done. The numbers are big but not huge compared to other groups but I'd imagine the bulk of deaths for say the under 50s are people with serious conditions already. Once this group and all over 50s are done then you will see the number of deaths falling to extremely low levels if the vaccines are as effective as they appear to be.

Shame, i was really hoping for two consecutive days of less than 1000 deaths, but little doubt now that we have turned the corner.
You'll definitely get 2 on Sunday and Monday, these headline figures do that every week.

The number to look at is "date by death", not this media headline number, the 28th Jan was the last day over 1000, unless there are some late addons, but for the 29th to exceed 1000, it will take 37 addons, so I would think it unlikely.

Presumably anyone who takes medication regularly will be in this list then. Have they said who qualifies as the number of people in the group is 7.3m. Assume anyone with Asthma/blood pressure/Diabetes etc will qualify.
Yeah i got offered my jab last Thursday, the day after i tested positive. Fortunately no really bad symptoms but still gutted i have to wait 28 days now before i can recieve the vaccine. But at 58 with underlying issues I'm just happy to be on the mend.

England hospital data:

Yet more good news

The BBC will be days late again - they reported on the 10 o'clock news nearly 2000 more than the number I posted here this time yesterday as 'the latest figures' which they were not.

And nobody noticed we went below 30,000 patients in the UK yesterday. Though we did\

We are well under now.

England as of today 24, 402 in hospital - down 932 in 24 hours and down 4957 on last Friday when it was 29, 359.

3974 in the other three nations so UK total is 28, 376.

It's been a week today since I had my jab. Kudos to my doctor's surgery they seem to be getting through people quickly, with no underlying health conditions I thought it would be a few months for me yet. Is it another two weeks before the protection kicks in?
