I did ask this before but no-one answered. The UK has essentially been in lockdown since mid November and prior to that a tier system. Yet the numbers have been pretty horrific.

Was the new variant the cause of this?

I got my first Pfizer jab this morning, had to wait 15 mins to ensure I didn't turn into a rag. Very efficient setup and so far zero after effects, not even a sore arm.
Should that be, turned back to being a rag.
Pleased for you ,my wife getting her first next week
I'm a bit later , being a toy boy

I’m no way as qualified to answer as someone like Heald but my two penny worth..

I think so and the fact that so many are just ignoring lockdown and mixing households. Likely a combination of the two.

Christmas obviously didn’t help. Many didn’t just do Christmas Day, they continued between Christmas and New Year, which is obviously catching up.

A woman at work, she’s two levels up from me, brags about having parties every weekend.

It’s people like this that are the problem.

The government locked down far too late in winter, they could never tell me not to celebrate on Christmas Day but a lockdown like we are in now every day of December and January, other than this day, was needed.

Thanks for that. I guess not be careful with the original strain was problematic but with the much more infectious version even worse.

That is a key aspect, you’re more likely to catch it in a supermarket now than previously and over 67 million people on a small island, that’s always going to have a significant affect.

Those mixing households right now, outside of bubbles and those that have no choice.. ie those doing for a piss up, really are selfish bastards.

The new variant makes things worse.

But the lock down and other restrictions do not define the number of cases. The restrictions just define the rate of change- whether cases go up or down.

The same restrictions will control the level of cases to 600 or 60,000 daily cases. The reason cases are so high is because we didn't act until the virus was out of control.

Has anyone had the vaccine at the etihad? Taking my mates dad tomorrow to avoid him getting the bus and not sure if it’s at the ground or the tennis centre? He just said etihad So not sure! Is there just the one vaccine centre there?
