just a personal feeling and comment - when the spring gets warmer and the cases are crashing, plus the vaccinations and antibodies dominating the population, the restrictions will begin to be lifted in stages (probably from March to be honest). At some point over the summer we'll be allowed out for meals and into each other's houses.

As much as there are arguments for further restrictions in the autumn, in some form, i wouldnt be surprised if the general appetite and adherence to them absolutely crashes and burns. I'm just not sure people are willing to put up with it again. For better or worse.
If the vaccination programme is successful and by late summer the majority of the population is vaccinated, mutations arent impacted etc, whats the point of further restrictions?

Anyone else agree it's a fucking disgrace that we are still in lockdown ?

Let's ruin peoples businesses, stop people getting cancer treatment, watch people suicide rates keep rising all in the name of a virus with a 99.5% survival rate.

Disgusting.
It's not the lockdown stopping people getting medical treatment, it's the numbers in the hospitals, caused by not having a stricter lockdown when we needed it. Businesses can recover (in the main), dead people (and a fair few of the survivors) can't, but it's a balancing act unfortunately with respect to mental health. That's a symptom of a much bigger problem society has all over the world.

I sympathise with people who have an addiction of any kind, whether it be drinking, eating, smoking, gambling or whatever. However, I don't agree with the "what else can they do?" line. They could:-

- go for a walk
- do some gardening
- read a book
- play a computer game
- play a board game
- watch TV
- surf the internet
- do some baking
- learn a new skill

and that's just off the top of my head.
I get that but that's not the silver bullet - I go running every day and don't drink yet with all this going on I still feel shit. The goverment should be giving people hope and planning a road map out instead of the daily press conferences of doom.

Not having help from China isn’t trying to spite the Chinese people.

Their government are the guilty party in all of this and shouldn’t be trusted.

If the vaccine becomes available to us here, it will not be because the Chinese government have said "trust us, it's great". It will have been evaluated and judged as safe and effective by British scientists. If it helps protect more people, more quickly and reduce transmission in the community (and therefore reduce the opportunity for further mutations which everyone could become susceptible to) then we should be rolling it out as quickly as possible alongside anything else that becomes available to us. Failure to take up every opportunity avaialble to get this thing under control just prolongs the pain for British people.

How’s it spiteful to the Chinese people?

i guess the argument goes that ~20% of the adult population wont have it and a small %age wont have full cover, so you're still looking at 10m+ people for cases and deaths and health service pressure, which is quite a lot of folk. Then you get variants and new strains...... ugh, i'm just feeling a bit over it all.

It is very understandable that people would question whether or not they have the vaccine. At the end of the day, who the hell believes anything that the government says? But as someone who was hesitant, I had it last week and already feel like there's hope of freedom. I'm classed as an essential worker so got it earlier than my age group. There was absolutely no side effects and the facilities and staff were brilliant! Of course it was at the Etihad! But on a serious note, it really is amazing that we are a rich country and have the chance to get it!

You certainly did.
Sorry mate, you are clutching at straws trying to make your argument. I know exactly what I said and in the end, reluctantly revealed why.

I have spoken personally to one of the top medical bods in the Country wrt my rare condition and the fears our family have wrt vaccine reactions, and we have been given sufficient assurances that we are going to take it when offered.
