As an under 30 who has had their first dose of AZ/Oxford, I'd be lying if I said this wasn't worrying. Advice seems to be that I'll get my second dose. Is there any evidence that these blood clots tend to be after the first dose only?

Yes, I'm 46 and have only have used the pill for 3 months in my early 20s then had to stop due to my leg swelling and family history of dvt. Never used it again.

Had to inject myself daily with an anti clotting thing for my entire pregnancy age 41 due to high risk. Am currently waiting for a scan on a lump on back of leg that consultant worried was possible clot ( but 3 was on still no appt so yes I guess they can't have been that worried..).

I am pretty scared of having the Oxford despite being so desperate for the vaccine. I was hoping we'd be on moderna in a week or two but now that's not likely as they will save it all for under 30s.

I got called a few days ago to have it! But had a bad cough so they said to wait til better. I just don't know what to do. My leg still hurts, my breathing has gone poor the last week and a resting heart rate is 110 instead of 80 to 90. So already worried that lump was a clot that's on it's way to my lungs! Had a covid test 2 days back so I know it's not that.

Nervous. Don't know what to do.

That's very tough. Talk to your doctor is the only advice I would offer.

It seems that the mechanism for this rare clotting disease is quite different, so may or may not be relevant to your own circumstances.

I think at the moment too few second doses (bearing in mind it's one in a million or something) to tell, as I read it.

I don't think there is any suggestion whatever that u30s are *more* at risk than other age ranges - just that they are *less* at risk from COVID, so the risk:benefit is different.

I'm 51 and will be going ahead with my 2nd dose.

I’m 51 too and my second dose of AZ is due 20/4. Will definitely be having it. Risk of COVID is very real along with associated issues, risk of the blood clot incredibly small in comparison.

Precisely, its a shame that a life saving drug is getting all this negative attention. Millions of women take the contraceptive pill across europe and thier chances of getting a clot is between 1 in 10,000 and 1 in 33, 000 and between 3 and 5% of people who fly develop blood clots. But this gets hardly any attention. Flying or taking a contraceptive pill are not essential and dont save your life but taking the AZ vaccine could easily save your life. Still a no brainer for me when you look at the stats.
Are you going to retract your previous comments about the previous restrictions of the AZ vaccine in Europe being politically motivated?

That is true, patches are safer but also more expensive and also if you have been on one of the pills for some time doctors are reluctant to change regimes if your levels test stable.

Hence why I will talk to her as this puts another factor into the equation of whether to switch to patches.

My wife started with gel as she wasn't keen on patches, but has recently switched to spray which is relatively new and very convenient.

She had to push the doctor initially to get what she wanted.
