If what we are doing is clearly working, why rush now. Take it steady and less risk of needing a backward step. An extra few weeks after 14 months of this isn’t too much extra hardship. I know the closer we get to normality the bigger the temptation to rush and take short cuts, but better to be gradual.

As someone who has always been of the opinion we have been over cautious, I agree with this. I think the 5 weeks between the next 2 stages of lockdown are right and gives everyone a chance to get the shops and initial rush to the pub out of their system before the next big opening. No point in rushing these hopefully final steps.

Having to book a doctor’s appointment as for weeks I’ve had loose bowels (too much information I know!). That’s nothing new for me but it’s definitely gone up a notch and hasn’t gone away. I’m hoping it’s just a symptom of long Covid having had the virus at the back end of January and diarrhoea is listed as one of the long Covid symptoms but going to get things checked out just in case.

Greater Manchester Cases

175 cases today - up 4 on yesterday. But down 17 on last week. As the NW fell today by 39 this was not so good for GM as a whole but small numbers. small margins.


The GM scoreboard has a far more familiar feel from the past week or two.

Manchester top scores on 47 which is up 9 on day but down 8 wk to wk

Rochdale on 24 - up big (15) day to day and 2 wk to wk

Bolton sticks at 23 from yesterday up just 1 on last week.

Oldham is down 2 to 21 which though a tad high is a fall of 12 on last week.

Wigan next on 19 which is also down 6 on the day and by 4 from last week

Trafford lost a little ground today on 12 - up 5 on the day and 2 on last week. Also lost 4 overall Popscore Points to Stockport who had a better day.

Salford also on 12 - same as yesterday - but up 4 wk to wk.


The other 3 have single figures:-

Bury on 8 - down 4 day to day but up 1 week to week

Stockport is also on 8 - which is down 1 on the day but down 10 from last week



Tameside - though - steals the headlines!

Taking us as close to zero as you can go without getting there with just 1 case today.

This is down 12 on the day and 8 week to week.


It is also the lowest GM score since mid Summer 2020.

Have you tried to avoid milk products to see if it helps? Not just milk in it's bottled form. I had diarrhoea (not covid related) a few years ago. After that, I lost a lot of weight. Didn't seem to go away. Turned out the diarrhoea led to me becoming lactose intolerant. Weirdly, butter was a big issue even though milk content was fairly low.

If you are getting a lot of wind, try charcoal tablets (with plenty of water) and camomile tea (even though it is disgusting).

I do hope your doc has thin fingers. The person I went to see had the fattest fingers I had ever seen. Bit uncomfortable, to say the least.

Do you know anything about DNA based developments like the Scancell Covidity vaccine? I’ve read about it online but it’s a bit complicated for me. Seems they can address variants by acting against a different part of the virion that doesn’t mutate. Do you know if there there are other companies doing similar research and who’s in the lead at the moment? I’m interested from an investment perspective.

Moderna, Pfizer and Curevac. mRNA platform is regarded as the future of this sector. But their share price may already factor in expectations of success.

HOSPITAL DATA


Good falls in both England and the other UK regions. Just 322 in hospital outside England - down from 4912 in January! UK now just under 2300 patients in hospital with Covid when it was nearly 40,000 in January. Ventilators sub 400 in both England and UK. With dates when numbers were lower slipping back now daily into late September.

South West's rise in ventilators for 7 days is slightly worrying but the numbers are so low not a panic.

Things still going in the right direction pretty much everywhere else.
