in Maharashtra ( a large province of India where Mumbai is ) 60% of cases are the double mutant. its clearly spreading quickly.

That is a worry. Clearly people who had Covid previously (60% antibodies in Mumbai itself) are catching it again.
More than 50% of cases are the UK varriant though

Greater Manchester Cases

The day of reckoning with the Pop Score readjustment from all those minis numbers last week. Had to put Pop Scores up everywhere in the entire nation. Not just GM. But could have been much worse. In fact I would say GM has come out of today far better than it might have done. And back to normal tomorrow this is a one day reverse as the weekly Pop only takes account of one week to week period obviously.

156 cases today - down 17 on yesterday despite the 44 NW rise. So the % split fell to under 50% at 49.3%
Big drop from 63.1%

Manchester top scores on just 31 which is nice symmetry as it had MINUS 31 last week! But one of the best scores for the city in months so a good result despite the jump of 62 week to week.

Oldham struggling still and nearly Pipped Manchester on 28 - which is up 5 on the day and a big 22 on last week as it was one of only two boroughs to not get a case reduction last Friday.

Bolton down 6 to 20 from yesterday and up 8 on last week as the other borough to not have a minus number then.

Rochdale is next up 9 on the day to 17 but down more from MINUS 15 wk to wk

Tameside has 14 - up 6 on the day and from MINUS 25 last week. A big week to week jump.

Wigan has a good fall to just 11 which is down 7 on the day but versus minus 29 last week so only Manchester had a bigger jump over the 7 data_.

Trafford also fell by 7 to 11 but from minus 20 last week. So not quite as bad.

Also lost more in the overall Pop score to Stockport who had a better day than Trafford today. Trafford's over all Pop lead on Stockport is now 'just' 180.

Salford up 2 to 10 on the day versus MINUS 17 last wk.

Bury loses out on top spot today being up 2 to 9 - versus MINUS 15 last week

But best score today was in Stockport with its best score in some time on just 5 - down 10 on the day but versis minus 23 last week.

The weekly cases show the damage from the comparison with minuses but it would have been much worse had cases not fallen more or less everywhere over the past 7 days. Though 5 boroughs still manage to stay below 100 which is better than I expected

Weekly cases:-

Bury 55, Tameside 80, Trafford 87 , Salford 91, Stockport 92, Rochdale 118, Bolton 121, Wigan 138 , Oldham 145, Manchester 298

HOSPITAL DATA

Summary:

A bit of a blip today. Friday usually sees good falls as decks are cleared but ventilators ROSE in every nation but N Ireland. Only by 7 in total but the fall has been slowing. A drop of 20 patients helped outside England too. Now under 300 at 295 in hospital in the three nations bar England - down from 4912 in January! UK now just over 2100 patients in hospital with Covid when it was nearly 40,000 in January. Ventilators sub 300 in England. But now only just.

North West had an OK day with one of the two best falls in patient numbers but ventilators rose slightly as they did in several areas and so did patients too in several regions.

Today is a cautionary one. Not sure if we have bottomed out or we will start to see a more obvious and consistent rise next week. Hopefully not. Data will not be updated now till Monday so we will only know then which way numbers will tip from here. Dodgy variants will not help as you will see three southern areas added patients today rather than lose them as - happily - did the more northern areas. At least for now.

UK total:

Patients down to 2139 - it was 39, 248 at the peak on 18 Jan - (fall of 37, 109 in 88 days) :- lowest since 27 September

Ventilators UP to 334 it was 4077 at the peak on 24 Jan - (fall of 3743 in 82 days) : lowest since 29 September

Ventilators: UP 4 to 298 v 362 last week :- lowest since 1 October

Peak was 3736 on 24 Jan (fall 3438 in 82 days)

Certainly from India.
I thought there were no flights to India. If I'm wrong we've really fucked up. This and foreign travel in summer will really screw us over. I've said before from the position we have now we need to close international travel as much as possible until next year. Only this way can we hope to beat it
