Professor Edmunds, who is a member of SPI-B the group that advises SAGE on behavioural science, said he expected the new variant would cause a large number of cases, hospitalisations and deaths over the next two months.

He also rejected the idea that the spread of Omicron could end up being a "Christmas gift" if it turned out to cause a milder form of disease.

"This is as bad news as you can possibly get quite frankly," he said.
Merry Christmas

Nicely deflected.

Ok, I’ll add all hospitals are in the same situation to ask you to answer the question.
Its so hypothetical its funny. I know what answer you are fishing for. But my belief is every one should be treated and they will be.

are you in the ‘weirdo let em die’ category?
or the ‘treat em but charge em’ category?

I’d be in the try to educate them into having the vaccine category, followed by charging them for any excess treatment that was required as a result of not having the vaccine.

How about treating them provided they agree to take the Vaccine.... else they can pay for their treatment?

So make the vaccine totally mandatory then?
partially in agreement to be honest.

the whole conversation has veered from me initially pulling up someone whos words (i think without double checking) were “fuck em, send em home and let em die”. Which i likened to to the usual keyboard warrior statement of “if it was me id have leathered em”. Which they wouldnt do on either count

we have an NHS that treats everyone as we all pay in and you cant start changing the rules.

Not in a pandemic, no. Neither do they, hence the restrictions etc.

It‘s all hypothetical until it can’t cope and that’s when the charges should come in.
Wont happen. Ever. But as i keep saying , my initial point was really about dick heads saying they should be sent home to die. Totally ridiculous.

all afternoon its veered off to who and how treatment should be charged.

England hospital patients up again today by 77 to 6130. It is also now up week to week from 5915 by 215. Though last Thursday it also rose by 86 - slightly more than today.

Second day running for these both (day to day and week to week) to go up after falling for a few weeks.

Midlands and NE & Yorkshire the only regions not to go up today. North West rose by 21 to 832 today which is also up week to week from 801. Second day running NW has gone up too after a long period of falls.

Ventilated patients up also day to day and week to week and North West is back up over 100 on 102 - up 6 on last Thursday.

Full numbers later on the data thread.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack it, but I agree with what you say except that if people deliberately choose not to have the vaccination then that is their choice. So it isn't mandatory. However if they need treatrment then part of that treatment should be a vaccination, if they choose not to have the vaccination then it should be at their cost.

Not an ideal solution but the best I can come up with,

Meanwhile, back on planet Earth….

Obviously not yet proven but the evidence to date from South Africa quite strongly indicates that Omicron is much less severe than Delta. Most hospitalisations are ‘incidental’ and patients are in for unrelated conditions.

Yep. Looks really good - subject to my previous comments about comparing Omicron in SA and UK.

He hasn't got a clue about case severity. No one has yet other than it looks like Omicron is much milder than Delta. The only issue is will infections × severity break UK hospital bed limits or will it prove to be a virus vaccine like cow pox?

Stats from SA show infection rates soaring and hospital admissions falling. Good news, but still a danger I suppose if we all get it at once

His name rings a bell from countless previous doom mongering quotes.

‘As bad news as you can possibly etc’ is frankly a ridiculous thing to say at this stage.

Treat em n charge em then.

you dont really get how the NHS works do you
It’s an odd conversation really all hypothetical as nobody in the NHS or government are going to change any rules on treatment based on whether a patient is vaccinated or not, or on any life style choice really.
