you can ask me.

I am currently on cycle 4 of 6 chemo cycles .

I have been double jabbed and I see the onus being on me to mitigate my risks .
I am pretty knackered from the chemo anyway so won’t be dancing in pubs Until the chemo is over

however and unfortunately this is not my first chemo.

I had chemo for a year before Covid and again when you are on it the onus is on me to mitigate risks as you don’t want to catch a cold , flu etc as it could be tricky.

thousands of people are on chemo or have other immune compromising illnesses pre Covid. The idea that we would contemplate everyone else in society having restrictions placed on them for their benefit is nonsense.

the onus is on the person with it to protect themselves and watch what they do whilst having treatment . it’s always been personal responsibility with cancer patients , it’s not been about the wider public protecting them and I don’t think it should be .
OK thanks - and hope it goes well for you.

Exactly. My mum had chemo and radiotherapy in 2018 and again in March to May 2020. During each one she avoided having visitors, going anywhere with large crowds, keeping away from people with coughs and colds. Obviously the 2020 sessions also included masks, hand sanitizers and the strictest lockdown. She was told her biggest risk of all was setting foot in the hospital to get the treatment!!

Tough three years for you, puts the "sacrifices" most of us have endured in the trivial category, relatively. Best of luck, hope all goes well and get one of those FFP3 masks I posted about earlier in the thread for when you can venture out again.

Most importantly, best of luck with the chemo @kevin horlocks wand I hope all goes well.

Secondly, and in no way trying to be disrespectful or anything here so I genuinely apologise if it comes across that way, only trying to make the point re covid. I know there's been very little that you and people in your position can do to protect yourself at any point of life, and I know that many in your position wouldn't dream of asking for restrictions at any normal time.

Where I think this is different is that we have an ongoing pandemic and case rates are heading to potentially the highest that they've ever been in this country so transmission is high and people in your position are at perhaps more risk than previously, which is why I support masks at least for the basic aspects of life - shops, transport and supermarkets.

I realise we can't *always* restrict the vast majority for the few vulnerable people, but in times of such case rates I think it would be the sensible compromise until such time the case rates are under control.

Pubs, football, gigs etc are a bit different as they could be seen as luxuries to varying extent which is why I only stipulate the more basic things in life where I support mask wearing continuing at least for the time being.

For those who are vulnerable or anxious about others without masks, could they buy the ones mentioned on the BBC? Are they available to buy?

The quality of face masks healthcare workers wear makes a huge difference to their risk of coronavirus infection, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust research has found.
Wearing a high grade mask known as an FFP3 can provide up to 100% protection.

What a dick!
In many many cases you would have no idea you were with a cancer survivor.
Tim Spall for instance, survived leukaemia, you wouldn’t know.
Thousands of breast cancer survivors, you wouldn’t know.
Why because i've expressed an opinion? come on keep it respectful. I choose not to wear a mask when it isn't mandated - you do (i'm guessing) which i totally respect as its your choice. Genuine question do you think we should live like this forever then?

So the doctors didn't tell you that it takes three weeks after the second jab before your immunity is kicked in?

Takes you beyond the 19th.
I've been respectful and waited until the old and vulnerable have been vaccinated and the Government has given the go ahead for restrictions to be lifted. I've done everything people have asked, played by the rules and got vaccinated twice.

I didn't see a doctor no, it was like a conveyer belt and sat with a nurse for about 30 seconds.

absolutely no need to apologise whatsoever you are a great poster.

society has been turned on it’s head with Covid.

the young sacrificing so much to protect the old And vulnerable, it used to be the other way round,

there comes a point where people have to get on with their lives, my parents don’t want their grandkids lives and schooling fucked up anymore to protect them. sensible precautions with personal responsibility is needed.

I am just making the point the vulnerable can manage and work out their own risks as they have always done. Eg No pub for me to watch the game tonight but my family will watch it together with friends we see regularly at their house.

Ah, DLBH can be a bit curmudgeonly at times, think a few (including me)have been reprimanded but I guess in real life he's probably a bit of a cuddly bear :-).
